**Job summary**:
The Homeland Security Group (HSG) is responsible for developing and coordinating HMG’s approach on a wide range of security issues, supporting the Home Secretary and other Ministers in the development and implementation of the UK’s strategies for preventing terrorism and reducing the risk from organised crime.

The roles within HSG are fast-paced, high profile and affect the safety and security of the UK on a daily basis. The experience, expertise and relationships across the Department, Whitehall, the Police, and the UK Intelligence Community enable the department to provide high quality analysis and advice to Ministers and senior officials who have significant interest in our work.

**Job description**:
The Special Cases Unit (SCU) is the immigration arm of HSG. It manages some of the most significant and high harm immigration, asylum, and citizenship cases, including suspected terrorists, extremists, war criminals and individuals involved in organised crime. In support of these functions, SCU collaborates with security agencies, the Police, UK Visas & Immigration, Border Force, Immigration Enforcement, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and National Crime Agency, as well as the Home Secretary and Ministerial offices. SCU is a fast-paced and supportive environment in which to work, providing its staff with developmental opportunities whilst contributing to public safety, control of immigration and the national security of the UK. SCU have sites at Croydon, London, and Liverpool, with this post based in Liverpool.

The position of an Executive Officer in the Deprivation Team is a key role supporting Senior Caseworkers in making recommendations for deprivation of British citizenship and defending subsequent challenges against the Home Secretary’s decision to deprive. The role will support the team on litigation management. This role will be rewarding, challenging, and often fast paced. You will need to be able to use your skills and judgement to contribute to the development and continual enhancement of our processes, policy and delivery to deliver against Home Office objectives of protecting the public.

**Person specification**:

- Develop a good understanding of the teams work to enable them to provide effective support, including undertaking research, gathering and sharing information to understand citizenship law within different countries.
- Oversee diary and inbox management on behalf of the team including organising and prioritising urgent tasks.
- Support senior caseworkers with deprivation casework (both pre and post decision).
- Demonstrate good organisational and time management skills.
- Remain flexible working under pressure and adapt to competing demands.
- Assist with drafting internal, public or ministerial communications.
- Support the team in responding Freedom of Information and Treat Official requests.
- Take forward project management duties such as tracking progress, providing updates and logging issues / risks.
- Support the management of litigation, updating calendars with key litigation dates.
- Use a good working knowledge of Excel and Word to oversee the handling of sensitive data.

**Essential criteria**
- Evidence of effective organisational, time management and prioritisation skills and using these to successfully deliver outcomes in a pressurised environment.
- Evidence of effective critical thinking and analysis skills.

**Desirable criteria**
- Experience/knowledge of the immigration system or national security issues, though training will be provided.
