The Podiatric Surgery Department at Park House, Carlton, Nottingham is a well-established successful department carrying out day case surgery under local anaesthetic on a variety of foot conditions. It was originally commissioned in 1997, gradually increasing its capacity and staffing, providing a first class service to Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas.

Due to an increasing demand and service growth, we are looking for a highly motivated Advanced Podiatrist to join our Community based team.

Working in a fast paced department with a varied workload you will assist our surgeons and podiatrists in providing exceptional patient care. Your duties will involve:

- Providing treatment and advice, specialist assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic skills in the management of complex foot disorders under the guidance of Consultant Podiatric Surgeons in outpatients and theatre.
- To play an essential role in the smooth running of our theatre and help us maintain our exceptional levels of care.
- To assist the wider theatre team with the safe passage of patients through the surgical pathway.
- To work closely with the MDT’s throughout the Trust

Working in a fast paced department with a varied workload you will assist our Surgeons and Podiatrists in providing exceptional patient care. Your duties will involve:

- To assist the wider theatre team with the safe passage of patients through the surgical pathway.
- To work to the highest clinical standards under the direct supervision of the consultant podiatric surgeons.
- To act as independent prescriber (IP) for the Podiatric Surgery service conforming to professional standards, organisational and service policies, procedures and guidelines.
- To assist in the preparation of theatre prior to surgery, between operations and following the sessions.
- To perform initial (new) assessments, and pre-surgical assessments of patients including: - Obtaining a full medical and social history with a particular emphasis on risk factors pertaining to foot surgery.
- Initiating advanced tests such as blood tests, thrombophilia screening, MRSA screening HBA1c, INR, D-dimer and diagnostic imaging.
- Undertaking cardio-vascular assessment and lower limb vascular assessment, using Doppler, ABPI and blood pressure analysis.
- Undertaking neurological assessment using 10g monofilament, vibration and reflexes.
- To undertake patient care prior to and during surgery, this may include: - Administering advanced local anaesthetic injections including digital, ankle and popliteal regional blocks utilizing ultrasound and nerve stimulators.
- Issuing antibiotic and analgesic medication.
- IV cannulation or IM injections for prophylactic cover
- Assisting the consultant podiatric surgeon during the procedure.
- Monitoring the patient and taking appropriate action and resuscitation as necessary.
- Assessing for postoperative discharge.
- Co-coordinating the discharge process.
- To undertake post operative patient care, this may include:

- Assessing post-operative progress.
- Wound management.
- Cast, suture and wire removal.
- Advice regarding physical therapy techniques, scar and swelling management, and, overall rehabilitation.
- Diagnosing post-operative complications including infection, deep vein thrombosis and complex regional pain syndrome.
- Initiating onward referral to acute services.
- Managing the eventual discharge of the patient from the service with appropriate follow on advice and realistic expectations.
- To be able to work autonomously and to be responsible for the podiatric assessment, diagnosis, and planning implementation, delivery and evaluation of conservative podiatric interventions (under the indirect supervision of the consultant podiatric surgeons as required) which may include:

- Initiating biomechanical treatment and the provision of orthoses and exercises
- Administering corticosteroid injections under ultrasound and fluoroscopy guided clinics where appropriate.
