Therapies and Rehabilitation are seeking an innovative, experienced and dynamic AHP for a newly-created Clinical Lead post in Digestive Diseases surgery (HPB, colorectal and upper GI service). This exciting role will offer clinical and strategic leadership to AHPs supporting this clinical area, across dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech and language therapy.

The Clinical Lead post will support existing in
- and out-patient services across both sites, plus emerging developments in service reconfiguration across emergency and elective pathways, early post-operative care (EPOC) and a new modular ward build.

We are looking for a senior clinician of any of the following AHP professions (Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Speech and Language Therapist) who can offer advanced-level clinical skills and senior decision-making, quality improvement and service development support, reflecting national best-practice guidelines and local innovation.

The post will act as a strategic link between the Therapies and Rehabilitation Directorate and Specialty Management Teams within the Surgical Division.

The post-holder must be able to offer strong, visible and accessible clinical leadership.

They will contribute to teaching and training within the wider team, and will ensure services are developed in line with NUH’s vision, values and behaviours.

Main duties of the job

This role will provide strategic clinical leadership in the management of patients under the care of NUH across the Digestive Diseases surgical area, and will contribute to direct patient care in the postholder’s clinical profession. Core responsibilities are spread over the four pillars of AHP practice - leadership; clinical practice; facilitated learning; evidence, research and development.

Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, physiotherapists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- BSc Hons in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy or Dietetics or equivalent
- Recognised post-graduate training relevant to specialty preferably including research skills to a Master’s level.
- Evidence of maintaining professional competence through CPD
- Knowledge of National, Trust and Departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Full HCPC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
- Require highly advanced / theoretical / practical knowledge and clinical reasoning skills relevant to Gastroenterology surgical pathways
- Experience of working collaboratively with other professional groups on service development/ quality improvement

Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a broad range of services

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
- Able to communicate highly complex information which may be sensitive or contentious
