Leeds, United Kingdom Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you looking for a new challenge? Want to be part of a multi-disciplinary team offering psychological interventions to patients with severe and enduring mental health difficulties on a psychiatric rehabilitation ward? Our service ethos is helping each service user to achieve the best possible quality of life; and psychological understanding (formulation) of their difficulties and psychologically informed interventions are a key part of the rehabilitation programme that we offer.

We are looking to appoint one assistant psychologist interested in learning about psychoanalytic theories (fixed term 12 months, full time) to join the team on Ward 5, Newsam Centre.
As an assistant psychologist with an interest in mental health and curiosity to understand the human mind in its various complexities, your role would be to work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to assist in delivering psychologically-informed care to patients on the ward. A wish and an ability to make and maintain meaningful relationships with patients and staff is central in this role as well as an openness to integrate the psychological perspective with the perspectives of other professions, such as psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, social worker and drug & alcohol specialists.
The successful post holder would have a regular weekly clinical supervision with a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist and fortnightly professional/clinical supervision with a clinical psychologist.

Ward 5 is a 17-bedded male complex rehabilitation ward offering rehabilitation treatment of up-to 2 years to patients with severe and enduring mental health difficulties, often comorbid with alcohol and substance abuse. Your role would involve taking part in MDT meetings, assisting with formulations, providing 1:1 therapeutic time to patients and psychologically informed interventions with an emphasis on psychoanalytic theories, as well as taking part in more structured group interventions.
Due to the longer-term treatment of up to 2 years, a key aspect of the role is to be able to form longer-term therapeutic relationships with patients and to become involved in delivering individual and group interventions aimed at helping them to better understand themselves, to better live with themselves and make the most of their potential. You would be supported by a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist and a consultant clinical psychologist.

Informal discussions most welcome.
