The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust specialises in orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and spinal injury research and rehabilitation. The surgical treatment of patients with bone and soft tissue tumours is a major part of the activity of the hospital, for which it is nationally commissioned and internationally recognised.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the unit for a fixed term of 12 months to cover maternity leave. The successful post-holder will be joining a busy, expanding and world leading oncology department. The role is flexible with the ability to work cross-site and work from home.

The post-holder will lead research in musculoskeletal cancer, developing, managing and/or coordinating and recruiting to relevant research projects from design through to implementation and conclusion. Importantly the post holder will support a culture of research and enquiry amongst clinical teams (medical and non-medical). They will provide expert research advice and guidance to the multi-disciplinary team with a commitment to the wider dissemination of research findings and the translation of this to new, evidence based clinical practice and care models. The post holder will support the provision of evidence-based care to optimise patient outcome through training, education and the embedding of a research culture. They will develop the research portfolio and team through the identification and submission of appropriate grant opportunities and publications.

Developing programs of research predominantly focused on understanding and therefore improving outcomes for patients.

Leading on grant submissions for programs of research, such as fellowships, RfPB, HTA/Charity calls, NIHR funding streams

Collaboration with HEIs, CTUs, NIHR, RDS as appropriate to build programs of work and funding at local, national and international levels.

Ensuring RNOH is represented in relevant national and international clinical trials.

Support an ongoing culture of evidence based and high quality care alongside the clinical research lead and other clinical/academics within the Division and organisation.
