General Description:

- This role is responsible for organizing and co-ordinating an activity programme in the Home and creating a stimulating environment in order to enhance the residents’ quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

- Identify the needs of each resident through the use of resident care plans.
- Co-ordinate the provision of activities, in conjunction with the Home Manager and staff.
- Organise, facilitate and modify varied group activity programmes which will maintain interest and progression over a period of time.
- Provide person centred social and occupational opportunities for individual residents.
- Co-ordinate the provision of in-house amenities, e.g. a confectionery trolley, library facilities.
- Arrange social activities, entertainment and outings.
- Establish links with, and encourage involvement of, the local community in the Home, e.g. schools, religious and voluntary groups, museums.
- Co-ordinate the provision of services from external organisations in the Home, e.g. Red Cross, PAT-Dog, EXTEND.
- Support other care home staff and volunteers allocated to assist in the activity programme.
- Involve relatives in the development of activity programmes and attend relatives’ meetings as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Home Manager, Marketing Executive and care staff regarding the implementation of the activity programmes.
- Provide information, as required, for inclusion in residents’ care plans.
- Maintain and purchase stock for activity use, including equipment, materials and resources, within a given budget.
- Responsibility for equipment which has been borrowed from other sources, ensuring its return in the same condition as when borrowed.
- Assist with residents’ personal care needs as appropriate.
- Conduct risk assessments for all levels of activity.
- Ensure a safe environment is maintained at all times within the Home, reporting any incidents, accidents, infections or hazards/ faults.
- Undertake mandatory training and identified training in order to be able to carry out the role.
- Attend regular supervision and appraisal meetings.
- Assist with or attend to any other duties which are reasonable to the role.
- Be responsible for maintaining own professional knowledge and competence as well as coaching and encouraging others.
- Ensure the safety and security of the Home i.e. identification of visitors (sign in and out), alarms etc.
- Be responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues and residents alike.
- Respect confidentiality and work in accordance with the Date Protection Act (1998).
- Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home and the Group at all times.
