London, United Kingdom Royal Society Full time

Job Scope:
**The Royal Society**

The Royal Society is the independent scientific academy of the UK and the Commonwealth, dedicated to promoting excellence in science. It is a self-governing Fellowship of many of the world’s most distinguished scientists drawn from all areas of science, engineering and medicine. The Society’s fundamental purpose, as reflected in its founding charters of the 1660s, is to recognise, promote and support excellence in science and to encourage the development and use of science for the benefit of humanity.

**Background**

Business is the engine of the UK economy around two thirds of UK R&D is performed in industry. High quality research and development fuel economic growth and the creation of skills, high-value jobs and entrepreneurial businesses in our knowledge-driven economy. This means that the flow of ideas and skills between the research base, business, public and charity sectors is crucial to future prosperity.

The Society has established a science, industry and translation programme to promote industrial science and translation. It aims to bring together industry, academia and government to advance ideas and support scientists in industry and those in academia who wish to commercialise their research. The programme covers a broad range of academic disciplines and industrial sectors. Activities include a regional conference series and a scientific meeting series, bringing together representatives from industry, academia and government to discuss major scientific and technical challenges. The Society also funds industry fellowships to support researcher mobility and an Entrepreneur in Residence programme placing experienced entrepreneurs and industry scientists in UK universities.

Examples of the Society’s industry and innovation work can be found on the Society’s website Industry and innovation | Royal Society
