Samaritans has a brand new role for a Head of Samaritans Training School (STS) to lead the programme and ensure it provides a safe, high quality recruitment and training proposition for new Samaritans Volunteers. Your role will be to create an aspirational vision for STS and engage the team and Samaritans people, in the delivery of that vision. Youll liaise with Regional Directors, Branch Directors, and Service Directors to ensure the School is achieving the targets for service expansion.

Samaritans has launched a new 5 year strategy with five new priority areas: access, reach, impact, capacity, and sustainability. A brand new Samaritans Training School (STS) has been created to build a One Samaritans culture by supporting hubs and branches through all stages of the volunteer development journey. STS will enable Samaritans to recruit and train more volunteers to expand our service and grow the number of listening volunteers into our organisation, helping us to be there for more callers.
Samaritans strategy focuses on the aim of becoming one team of valued, diverse and skilled people. STS is a centralised volunteer recruitment & training school that compliments the branch-led programme, to meet the demand for our service. STS enables Samaritans to expand our service quickly, alongside service expansion plans, and support branches to reduce their volunteer waiting lists. STS will offer interviews, deliver Core Development training and work alongside Hub and Branch Directors to ensure a positive onboarding experience for new listening volunteers. The programme also aims to increase diverse representation in our people.
**Required Skills and Experience**
Youll be a strong leader, with experience of managing and developing a high performing team. Youll have experience of working effectively with volunteers and external stakeholders in a complex organisation. Additionally, youll be able to translate organisational vision and strategy into team vision and operational plans, that deliver high performance.
Youll have experience of leading high-profile organisaiton-wide projects and change and improvement initiatives. Youll have experience managing budgets, be an excellent problem solver and have strong influencing and negotiation skills. Experience of working with, or managing, volunteers (in either a paid or voluntary capacity) is desirable.
