**Job description**:
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Welsh Language Unit in Cardiff. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved with a welcoming team and use your existing skills and experience to produce high quality translations and contribute to the development of Welsh language services for HMRC.

**The Role**

The role involves using modern software packages to aid the translation of various documents in several different electronic formats, as well as discussing and helping to decide on new terminology and written style. There will also be regular opportunities to get involved in a wide variety of translation projects. This will broaden your experience of customer management and demand, translation software and terminology, and how we provide our Welsh language services. You will be provided with comprehensive and structured training that will help you develop these skills.

To support this you will need to have excellent communication skills, be able to produce quality translations, and be forward thinking with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

**Responsibilities**

Will include the following:

Produce high quality English/Welsh translations of all HMRC material - to agreed standards, and within agreed turnaround deadlines - including correspondence, forms, leaflets, web content and online services, as well as some ministerial information.
- Proof-read colleagues' and own translations in a timely way - always considering all deadlines involved.
- Make full and proper use of our translation memory software, ensuring that it is populated with quality translations (training will be provided).
- Look for opportunities to provide the best possible service for our customers and the Department by demonstrating flexibility when approaching new and changing work priorities, and by producing translations in the most cost-effective way.
- Strive to improve the quality of our services - with the vision of always putting the customer first - reinforcing the importance of the customer’s experience of HMRC’s Welsh language services.

**Essential Criteria**:
You will have:

- Excellent language skills (Welsh and English).
- Degree in Welsh or equivalent Welsh language qualification or experience in Welsh language translation.

And you should have good knowledge and experience of:

- Welsh translation processes, software and resources (Both on paper and online).
- Prioritising workloads and communicating effectively.
- Welsh language customers’ requirements.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Membership of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru (Association of Welsh Translators) - English > Welsh.
- Sound knowledge of various formats in which Welsh translations are required (e.g. Word, Excel, PDF, HTML, etc).
