An autonomous practitioner in Art Psychotherapy, responsible for providing and developing an Art Psychotherapy Service. The post holder will be responsible for the specialism of Art Psychotherapy within the Additional Therapies Team within the Bristol Dementia Wellbeing service. He/she will require a substantial level of expertise in providing and receiving complex information that may involve communicating contentious and sensitive information. To liaise with and advise referrers on appropriate referrals for art psychotherapy.

The post holder will be responsible for their specialism and for its profile and deliverance of good practice. The post holder will be involved in audit to increase the evidence base for Art Psychotherapy and to contribute to maintaining best practice in the specialist area. You'll need to be: Creative, flexible and resourceful Resilient in dealing with other peoples strong emotions Sensitive and mature Artistic with excellent communication skills Able to work with people from all walks of life Able to reflect on your own emotions PROFESSIONAL/CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITY The post holder will: 1.1 Be responsible, in consultation with the Professional Lead for Additional Therapies, for effective planning and delivery of the Art Psychotherapy Service for patients with dementia. 1.2 Maintain professional standards of competence, confidentiality and conduct consistent with those set out in BAAT and HPC.

1.3 Maintain confidentiality in dealing with patients, their therapy and care, analysing and making decisions when that confidentiality needs to be breached. 1.4 Bring specialist Art Psychotherapy knowledge and expertise into the assessment of patients. Conduct individual and group art psychotherapy treatment involving intense concentration and analysis of highly complex verbal and non-verbal unconscious communication. Patients frequently present in highly distressed or emotional states, which he/she will be required to clinically manage.

1.5 Use an awareness of the cultural and racial diversity of the patients of the service, to provide psychological care for individuals and groups and offer culturally appropriate treatment and materials. 1.6 Maintain patients records and provide relevant and comprehensive case administration, e.g. assessment reports, discharge summaries, contribute to multidisciplinary notes and communication with other agencies. 1.7 Protect the confidentiality and physical safety of patients art work, make and keep photographic records of art work, and arrange the disposal and archiving of all art work in accordance with BAAT professional standards.

1.8 Participate in team-wide discussions where clinical judgements need to be made with regard to confidentiality e.g. Child protection, criminal investigations etc 2 POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT The post holder will: 2.1 Communicate the needs of Art Psychotherapy as part of the treatment program and inform other members of the staff team of any relevant changes or developments within the Art Psychotherapy profession. 2.2 Be aware of the implementation of Access to Health Records Act 1990, ensuring the safekeeping and confidentiality of all records and will advise trainees on the requirements. 2.3 Meet the legal requirements of the MHA 1983 and the Health Safety at Work Act 1994 and will advise trainees on the requirements.

2.4 Demonstrate knowledge on matters related to differences and equality both in therapy and professional relationships. This includes age, disability, culture and race, sexual orientation, and religion/belief systems. 2.5 Ensure that the high profile, progressive practice and understanding of Art Psychotherapy is maintained in the area of specialism through informed awareness of the Arts Therapy/Psychotherapy literature base. 2.6 Be responsible for the care and maintenance of art materials, tools, equipment and the art room as a therapeutic environment.

2.7 Use computers, cameras, art tools, slide projectors and video equipment etc carefully, safely and proficiently within the boundaries of COSHH, and advise when maintenance is required. 2.8 Check the stock of art materials on a regular basis and order what needs replenishing. Organise stock and requirements within the annual budget and take responsibility for administration and stock control. 2.9 Carry out risk assessments and reviews on the art environment so that it is well maintained and secure.

Ensure that the environment and materials are used safely. 2.10 Adhere to all relevant Trust procedures, including Health and Safety, quality standards and data protection and will advise trainees on the requirements. 2.11 Report all accidents and complaints using the correct procedures, completing incident forms and informing the duty medical team where appropriate. 3 HUMAN RESOURCES The post holder will: 3.1 If suitable, offer clinical placement for art psychotherapy trainees as agreed with the Head of the service.
