**Job summary**:
Operations Division are recruiting for a Military Data Technical Lead. This is a new role that will sit within the Military Data Team, which is made up of Geospatial Specialists of varying levels of expertise, who curate and deliver services and products for defence and defence customers to enable operational, navigational and situational awareness decision making. This currently covers Submarine ENC’s, Military ENCs and Mine Warfare associated products and services. The role will also reach outside of the Military Data Team as our provision to our customers evolves.

The Technical Lead role is responsible for providing high level technical input and leadership to the delivery of a number of products for the Defence community along with the development of new digital products in answer to emerging customer requirements.

**This post is based in Taunton, Somerset, so you’ll need to live within a commutable distance. There will also be a requirement to travel nationally/internationally.**

**This job is reserved for UK nationals only. Developed Vetting (DV) clearance is a pre-requisite.**

**Job description**:
The purpose of the role is, in conjunction with the Military Data Team Manager, and the Defence Product and Service Manager, to develop technical solutions to support fleet and allied navigation requirements.

The Military Data Team Technical Lead is responsible for providing high level technical input and leadership to the delivery of a number of products for the Defence community, including the development of new digital products in answer to emerging customer requirements.

The Technical Lead will:

- Provide technical leadership and domain experience to the Military Data Team (MDT) in order to achieve the team’s objectives.
- Work with managers and SMEs to define the depth and breadth of technical knowledge and skills required to deliver current and future products and services. Provide input into training and competency frameworks.
- Owner of Military products quality documentation and production processes
- Provide technical leadership for MDT collaboration and partnering with MOD customers, industry and international partners. Represent UKHO and wider UK defence in international forums relating to MDT programmes of work.
- Work with the Product and Services Manager and engage with RN customers to ensure their requirements are understood and expectations met.
- Provide technical leadership and expert advice on projects for MDT systems, future standards, processes and products with a consideration for our allied partners.
- Identify additional and future requirements to support UK defence activities where UKHO can provide data, products and services to improve operational effectiveness or better support emerging technologies and platforms.
- Co-ordinate wider UKHO support against some of the work programmes especially when they relate to wider government requirements.
