The
**Business Intelligence (BI) Team** sits at the heart of the organisation and is key in driving evidence based decision making across the council.
**We have a**
**fixed term opportunity until 31/03/2024**

Using robust data and information drawn from a wide range of sources, the BI Team ensures that the council has a rich understanding of its residents and localities as well as its performance and has the necessary intelligence and insights to plan and communicate its future.

Harnessing the value of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence [AI] and machine learning to gain a deeper understanding of people and place will enable resources to be targeted most effectively improving lives and outcomes.

**What will I be doing?**

The BI team is creating a culture of using data and insight to drive improvements across the organisation, we want our managers and senior leaders to be eager for information, seeking increasing insight that can be used to make better and more effective decisions.

You will play a pivotal role in creating this culture, developing our business intelligence tools, providing insight and advice to our services to help them improve performance and innovating to improve the experience of customers and staff. It is anticipated that this role will have a focus on working with people based data eg adults, children and families as well as supporting wider commissioning work across the council.

We’re working to improve the lives of people in Somerset - and as a **Data Analytics Officer**, you’ll be a key part of that. Your day-to-day work will involve:

- Meeting with council services to understand their needs and requirements
- Querying a variety of databases using SQL
- Building data models
- Designing and building Power Bi reports that meet the needs of the service
- Producing tailored one-off reports for services

**What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?**
We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be. But it will really help if you have:

- Experience of SQL
- Experience of Power Bi or other visualisation software
- Experience/knowledge of local government is desirable but not essential

The salary range for this role is £28,371 to £32,020 per annum
