This post allows the clinical fellow to gain a broad experience in the Nottingham Children’s Hospital. It is designed for a trainee with paediatric experience who is planning a career in paediatric neurology at consultant level.

Main duties of the job

The post is approved for Higher Specialist Training in Paediatric Neurology by CSAC.

Neurology Trainee will gain experience within following paediatric neurology clinics
- Paediatric Complex Epilepsy
- once weekly
- Ketogenic Diest Clinic-once a month
- Vagas Nerve Stimulator Clinic
- once a month
- Paediatric Headache Clinic
- once a month
- Paediatric Neuro-macular clinic
- at least once a month
- Teenage Epilepsy Clinic
- once a month
- General Neurology Clinics
- once a week
- National Ataxia Tenegectesia Clinic
- 7 in a year

**Non-clinical training responsibilities (expectations of research/audit/teaching)**

There are ample opportunities for research, audit and teaching. Our previous registrars have been able to develop these areas further and obtain publications in peer reviewed journals.

**Further training opportunities**

In Nottingham, three sessions per week will be used by the trainee to gain experience by attachment to the clinical and service departments most relevant to paediatric neurology. Each attachment would be arranged to fit in with the trainee’s needs and last between three and six months. Development of research interest relating to one of these areas would be encouraged. The following attachments would be available in Nottingham: Neuroradiology, Neuropathology, Neurosurgery, Genetics, Community Services, adult Neurology and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Working for our organisation

The Childrens Hospital is situated in East Block on D and E floors, with outpatient departments on B floor and comprises:

- Eight wards - 121 Beds including critical care
- Critical care unit -14 beds
- An Oncology Day Case Unit with anaesthetic facilities,
- A Short Stay unit for observation of the acutely ill child
- A large Hospital school.
- The Academic Division of Child Health, Obstetrics & Gynaecology (University of Nottingham School of Medicine).
- A 22-bedded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (situated on B floor adjacent to the delivery suite)
- A separate Children’s Emergency Department, which sees in excess of 41,000 children per year, is co-located with the Adult Emergency Department. NUH is the Trauma Centre for adults and children for the East Midlands.

Two outpatient areas on B Floor, South and East.
