**Job summary**:
Asylum, Support, Resettlement and Accommodation (ASRA) is one of the key business areas within the Home Office. We are undergoing an exciting period of change. Alongside the other areas of the Home Office, the department is embarking upon a transformational programme. Operational Excellence is at the forefront of what we do.

Our strategic aims contribute to the Home Office strategic objectives: preventing terrorism and extremism; cutting crime and protecting the vulnerable; and reducing immigration and preventing abuse.

We have one of the most challenging and important jobs in government: safeguarding the vulnerable and their host communities and keeping our border secure. Every colleague within the Home Office plays a part in making that happen.

The Large Sites Accommodation Programme (LSAP) has been established to expand the asylum estate by accommodating asylum seekers in accommodation centres, during which their asylum claims will be progressed.

This accommodation will play a key part in improving and accelerating the asylum process by consolidating cohorts with similar cases in the same location.

The Programme is responsible for delivering both interim and longer-term Accommodation Centres.

**Job description**:
The role provides an exciting opportunity, where you will play a key role in supporting the programme to provide accommodation centres to house and support destitute individuals who have arrived in the UK, via unauthorised routes, to claim asylum whilst the Home Office assesses their claims.

The role will suit someone who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced environment, who has demonstrable ability to operate strategically, multi-task, and re-prioritise work in line with emerging trends and priorities. The post-holder will need to have strong leadership, organisational and time management skills and be comfortable managing a wide portfolio of demanding, high-profile responsibilities.

**Person specification**:
The post-holder will support a G6 lead providing legal and planning advice on pipeline sites for inclusion in the programme supported by data to drive the decision making.

Key responsibilities will include:
Providing support for pipeline projects noting any legal or planning issues before the sites proceed through governance into delivery.

Working with estates and contractors to deliver relevant assessments; and provide key data to ensure the decisions made are based on evidence.

Providing support to the G6 lead and working closely with Home Office Legal Advisors and the Government Legal Department to advise on any legal issues of proceeding with acquisitions including recommendations on route for obtaining planning permissions.

Ensuring timely, accurate and responsive provision of evidence and information and work to minimise and mitigate risks and issues within the programme which may impact on future litigation.

Developing and managing professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and act as lead point of contact for external parties.

This is an extremely high-profile and busy programme, and the post-holder may be required to undertake other duties as it evolves and to support wider demand.

The post holder must hold SC level clearance or be willing to undergo security clearance to SC level.

**Essential Criteria**
- Experience in providing property legal advice in relation to acquisitions and planning constraints.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an understanding of the use of different channels and formats for different audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to form well thought out conclusions and recommendations.
- Strong evidence of utilising data to drive decision making.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to form strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and demonstrable ability to manage competing demands.

**Desirable Criteria**
- Working knowledge of Government Estates and the UK planning system.
- Knowledge of the asylum / asylum support system.
- Legal qualification

**Behaviours**:
We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

- Changing and Improving
- Communicating and Influencing
