**Principal Planning Officer**who has the ability to manage and motivate staff and read and interpret plans is required for a well-established council based in Ripley, Derbyshire.
**SALARY**:£35,336 - £39,571 per annum (Grade 8)
**LOCATION**:Ripley, Derbyshire
**JOB TYPE**:Full-Time, Permanent
**WORKING HOURS**:37 hours per week
**JOB OVERVIEW**
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Principal Planning Officer who has the ability to manage and motivate staff and read and interpret plans.
Working as a Principal Planning Officer you will be required to manage a small team, responsible for the provision of development management services in approximately half of the Borough Council.
**DUTIES**
Your duties as a Principal Planning Officer will include:
- Ensure high standards in the provision of advice and reports to Planning Board, elected members and other stakeholders
- Represent Development Management Services at Planning Board and public meetings as well as involvement in regional and sub-regional issues
- Provide professional leadership to team and ensure high standards of customer service, in particular ensuring that complaints are dealt with in a courteous and timely manner
- Ensure appropriate weekly reports and one to ones are provided to officers to ensure performance targets are monitored and met
- Provide a positive and demonstrable lead towards a culture of less reliance on paper files and towards a paperless office, ensuring that such an approach becomes embedded within the team
- Research and prepare evidence for planning appeals and present the Council’s case either through written representations or informal hearings
- Support the Enforcement Officers, as appropriate, in the successful resolution of breaches of planning control
- Support Growth and Housing officers in working with landowners and developers to bring forward proposals for development and developing planning guidance to make sites more attractive to investors
- Provide high standards of customer service, in particular ensuring that complaints are dealt with in a courteous and timely manner
- Respond accurately and promptly to enquiries and communications from the public, elected members and other stakeholders
- Carry out all duties with an awareness of health and safety issues and adhere to the Council’s Safety Management System and the safety action level identified for this post
**CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS**
- A Degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent qualification plus Full membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
- An ability to manage and motivate staff through effective communication and excellent time management skills
- Sound knowledge of legislation, policy and practice in respect of development management
- Previous experience working in Development Management at a senior level; and experience of and confidence in operating at the political/management interface
