The regional engagement team hold an important role. The work of the regional engagement leads enables Social Work England to become an organisation that is firmly rooted in the principles of co-production; this is in keeping with the values that underpin the social work profession and will facilitate a two-way information flow. As an organisation, we will have the intelligence and data we need to make informed decisions as a regulator, and the support and challenge from our sector in so doing. Engagement is central to our regulatory approach.

Purpose of the role

Regional engagement leads are registered social workers working in geographical regions in England with a range of stakeholders, including people with lived experience of social work, social workers, employers and education and training providers. They will raise awareness and ensure the consistent implementation of Social Work England’s standards. This role will focus on engagement in the London region; however, it will also support regional engagement work in other areas of the country.

What you will do
- Lead on establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in your area, ensuring the role of the regulator and our professional standards are communicated, understood and embedded.
- Consolidate and translate the steer from our policy, strategy and communications teams to decide how best to meet our strategic aims through regional engagement.
- Engage with people with lived experience of social work to raise awareness of the regulator and our professional standards. Ensure their views and experiences are incorporated proportionately and meaningfully, to drive forward improvement at Social Work England.
- Work with education and training providers, in partnership with the education quality assurance officers, to implement new social work professional standards into programmes and engage with them in our strategic ambitions for social work training.
- Engage with social work students to raise awareness of the regulator and our professional standards, preparing them for registration.
- Lead on the preventative work of upstream regulation focusing on public protection.
- Raise the profile and visibility of professional standards and the framework for undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)
- Lead on gathering evidenced based insight and intelligence to inform internal policy decisions and internal processes.
- Provide expert, in-depth social work practice insight into all areas of Social Work England’s work, linking into registration, fitness to practise, education quality assurance, learning and development, communications and policy.
- Work closely with other regional leads to identify themes and issues that need wider attention and/or action, so there is a comprehensive current and accurate picture of the social work landscape in England.
- Continue to work to raise aspirations for the social work profession across the region and in line with Social Work England’s corporate strategy and vision.

Your skills, knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated success in leading and influencing within a social work setting at a senior level.
- Experience of working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments and influencing internal and external stakeholders and partners to achieve positive outcomes.
- Ability to analyse data and research, understand trends, identify risks and articulate potential consequences and to decide on solutions in collaboration with other stakeholders, internally and externally.
- Currently registered social workers without restriction or adverse fitness to practise history.
- Experience of presenting to large groups in person and online; confident and engaging presenter.
- Experience of influencing change in organisational practices and processes; decides on relevant insight to improve the experience and efficiency of organisational functions.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to develop professional credibility in the sector with senior leaders in local authorities and other employers, higher education institutions and people with lived experience of social work.
- Demonstrable ability to deliver programmes of work, using appropriate evidence, understanding external pressures, and in line with internal governance.
