**Housing Support Case Officer x 2**

Salary and grade: £39,977 Grade 6

Duration of role: Fixed Term Contract for two years

Hours per week: 37 per week, evening and weekend work may be required in some circumstances

Location: Hybrid working - primarily from home but also at Council Office at Abbey House, Abbey Close, Abingdon OX14 3JE. Some on site attendance across the districts is also likely to be required.

We are establishing an exciting new team to deliver and manage our Refugee Housing Programme. The programme is working to provide transitional housing for a number of refugee groups through a number of different government schemes. The programme involves the acquisition and management of transitional accommodation and community integration support for refugees while they settle in the UK. We are recruiting for 2 x Housing Support Case Officers to join our Housing Needs Team to deliver housing support and secure long-term housing solutions for refugee households.

**Main duties and responsibilities**:

- To help refugee households in temporary accommodation secure sustainable, long-term housing. This will include regular visits in South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse.
- To provide, on an on-going basis, high quality housing advice and housing options to refugee households.
- To help nominate refugee households to suitable temporary accommodation.
- To ensure refugee households understand and have access to the housing support available to secure long-term accommodation.
- To work with internal council teams, statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure that appropriate support packages are in place for refugee households moving into long-term accommodation.
- To source suitable long-term housing that would be available to refugee households in temporary accommodation.
- To undertake prevention and homelessness casework and make statutory homelessness decisions in accordance with the relevant legislation.
- Provide progress reports to the Housing Support Supervisor on securing move-on accommodation for refugee households.
- Attend internal and external meetings in relation to refugee housing and support as required.
- To work closely with the Community Support Supervisor and Officers to ensure housing support is understood and made available when refugee families move into temporary accommodation.
- To raise any housing or support issues identified to the appropriate authority.

The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility, and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

Your essential skills, knowledge and experience
- Have a good understanding of homelessness and tenancy legislation.
- ability to use IT systems including Excel
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- experience of dealing with vulnerable people and people who are in distress.
- strong levels of personal resilience
- well organised, completer finisher
- excellent time management and prioritisation skills
- understanding of confidentiality and GDPR
- excellent record keeping skills
- effective negotiation and communication skills
- confident and outgoing, able to liaise effectively with people at all levels including senior level in organisations
- flexible approach, able to pick up new tasks quickly using own initiative
- full and current driving licence and use of car for business

**Your essential qualifications**
- 5 GCSEs at grades A - C, including English and Mathematics, or an equivalent level of qualification

**If you have the following experience or qualifications - it’s a bonus
- experience of working in a local government environment
- experience of working in housing support
- experience of working with refugees
- a detailed knowledge of the 1996 Housing Act (Parts VI and VII); the 2017 Homelessness Reduction Act; tenancy law and other legislation relevant to housing need and homelessness.
- The ability to communicate in Dari, Pashto or Ukrainian.
