To facilitate and co-ordinate the set-up, initiation and monitoring/audit of all research studies within the Trust, in accordance with the relevant national and local regulatory frameworks, policies and procedures.

To ensure that all studies are initiated within the required timelines, and will be responsible for developing and managing the Trust NIHR CRN portfolio studies, as well as monitoring its performance against national and local targets.

Be responsible for national study-wide governance for mental health studies taking place in England to provide assurances to other NHS Trusts that appropriate approvals and governance checks have been undertaken. To act as main point of contact for researchers working on all research studies, providing support and guidance on all matters relating to initial and ongoing governance.

The post-holder must develop and implement systems to monitor local recruitment to research studies and conduct of the research in accordance with individual study protocols, both as a host Trust and sponsor. The role requires close involvement in the implementation of a range of national research management and governance processes and procedures, developed by the NIHR CRN and to deliver the Research Management and Governance (RM&G) function within the Trust.

Further develop systems of governance and risk management that facilitates the Trust’s role as the sponsor and a host of research while minimising/resolving risk to the Trust, in conjunction with the Research Support Service (RSS) guidelines.

To liaise with clinical service leads to ensure that there is sufficient capacity and resource to carry out new research projects.

To lead in the development of the RSS operational capability statement to establish research study feasibility within the Trust.

To be knowledgeable of the regulatory and ethical requirements for the conduct of clinical research, especially the Research Governance Framework, Good Clinical Practice, and related guidance, in order to ensure delivery of authoritative advice to investigators and continued compliance with regulations and governance.

To be responsible for and signatory on Research Passports and Letters of Access on behalf of the Trust including RIO access sponsorship.
