**Job Purpose**
As a Widening Participation (WP) Postgraduate Tutor you will assist the University of Glasgow (UofG) WP team in taking forward the suite of UofG WP programmes: FOCUS West (Focus on College and University Study in the West of Scotland) Top-Up Programme; Reach (Access to the High Demand Professions) Programme; Access to a Career Programme; UofG Summer School; UofG Taster Weeks; UofG Sutton Trust Summer School.
Interviews are scheduled to take place between Monday 28th August - Thursday 7th September and Monday 18th September to Friday 22nd September 2023. Not all dates will be used and Interviews will be conducted via Zoom
If you are successful following interview,
**you MUST be available for training between 9th-13th October**. Additional training dates will be confirmed. Training will take place at different points during this timescale.
Upon successful completion of training, employment will commence in October 2023.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. To prepare and deliver University of Glasgow WP programme school sessions with fellow tutors, using the materials and following guidelines provided in the tutor resource packs and online, and to attend all school sessions either online or in school as agreed at the commencement of the programmes.
2. To liaise with nominated contact staff in schools to ensure the smooth running of UofG WP programmes.
3. To act as a tutor/mentor for groups of pupils during sessions held on the UofG campus for each WP Programme, including travelling with pupils as required.
4. To maintain regular contact with fellow tutors and WP core staff and to inform WP staff of any problems encountered in schools or on campus.
5. To maintain accurate registers as required on a weekly or by-session basis and maintain an accurate record of outcomes of all school groups for all sessions. Submit these to WP core staff after each school session.
6. To mark pupils’ work and compile and collate student profiles to enable dissemination of results to admissions officers in HEIs.
7. To attend and complete all UofG training (online or in person) and regular feedback meetings.
8. To keep a record of hours worked and submit monthly pay claims to the WP office.
9. To proactively suggest improvements to the programme through established feedback mechanisms, in terms of content, materials, training and user experience.
10. Conduct other duties as required to support the WP team in successfully widening participation to HE and the UofG.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Degree, or equivalent professional qualification in relevant academic area
A2 Sound understanding of the learning skills required for successful study in HE.

**Desirable**:

B1 Current knowledge of the Scottish secondary school system.
B2 Current knowledge of the Scottish HE and FE systems
B3 Degree, or equivalent professional qualification in relevant academic area within the last 10 years
B4 Currently working towards / studying a postgraduate qualification

**Skills**

**Essential**:

C1 Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills
C2 Excellent team and independent working skills.
C3 Demonstrable ability to communicate and lead school level students in a friendly, student focussed manner.
C4 Demonstrate adaptability and contribution to change.
C5 Good timekeeping and administrative skills, enabling accurate and up-to-date record keeping.
C6 Knowledge of wider access within education.
C7 Prepared to work flexible hours.

**Desirable**:

D1 Full, clean driving license.

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1 Experience of working with young people, e.g., schools, personal tutor, youth work/groups, community work, sports coaching.

**Desirable**:

F1 Experience of working with learners in HEI's or F.E.
F2 Experience of working with young people in small and large group settings.
F3 Experience of working in widening access within an HEI or F. E College.
F4 Experience of teaching / tutoring online.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 6, £31,502 - £35,308 per annum, pro-rated to the number of hours assigned to, and worked by, you.
This post is offered on a part-time (no fixed working pattern) with a minimum of 40 hours throughout the entire contract, your hours will vary depending on your availability. It is fixed term from October 2023 with funding until July 2024.
