The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust is recruiting qualified Band 4 Nurse Associates to assist our established team to care for our preterm and term Neonates.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a well-established Level 3 unit providing a center of excellence for babies requiring medical and neurological assessment and treatment. We have 32 cots comprising of 8 ITU, 8 HDU, 16 SC and 10 cots on Transitional Care. Babies are referred to us from hospitals within the South West Neonatal Network and surrounding areas.
Essential to this role the applicant needs to have met the entry requirements detailed in the appropriate person specification document. The applicant needs to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, in addition to basic IT skills. Problem solving skills including analysis and evaluation are also important.
The Unit is looking for team members who are able to work and show commitment to continuing professional development, whilst meeting the physical and educational demands of the role.

- undertake a range of duties without direct supervision but will working with the support of a Band 5 (or above) Registered Practitioner.

- professional disciplines and make referrals for additional assessments and treatments as required.
- be competent within their scope of practice to provide holistic, compassionate care and therapy to agreed quality standards.
- keep the patient at the centre of his or her care, ensuring patient and carer participation in decision-making.
- effectively delegate tasks as appropriate within their sphere of responsibility.

The NICU Team is made up of a variety of roles that include Nursing, Medical, Allied Health Professionals and Supporting staff such as Housekeepers and Receptionists among others and we value everyone as being important in their roles. We have a strong ethos of family integrated care for the patients and families that need a NICU admission to our unit and hold them at the center of everything we do. Our aim is to deliver the best care possible and are very proud of the outcomes we achieve for the most vulnerable babies born from 22 weeks gestation.

Within the Neonatal Unit, you can expect to be supported by the Practice Development Team who will provide extensive orientation and training along with ongoing support and development to help you become an experienced practitioner within Neonatal Specialist Care (which will also include enrolment on the Network Neonatal Foundation Education Programme).
**In Summary**:
- Practice safe standards of care/therapy to patients following NBT protocols/policies and within the scope of the Nursing Associate role as defined by NBT as well as national guidelines where applicable
- Work within local policies/guidelines and within local competencies
- Be responsible for own learning and professional development in accordance with the NMC code
- Work within the MDT to provide excellent holistic care
- Ensure all basic care needs are met (Thermoregulation, Nutrition, Hygiene, Comfort, Spiritual, Cultural, etc.) and the family are partners in decision making/care giving
- Support families in health promotion activities relevant to specialism and participate in parental/family teaching
- Provide and support families to make an informed choice about feeding their baby and assist/support mothers to establish breastfeeding and successful lactation wherever possible
- Perform routine observations and recording of clinical observations relevant to the baby's gestation and learn to recognise when their condition is deteriorating - then act accordingly
