**Engineer Packaging Development**

**Job**

The Packaging Development Engineer is an important role within the Delivery System 2 organisation (DS2). It is responsible for the development, design and translation of "value added" packaging innovation for the growth of favourites, enhanced favouritesand adjacency areas. This role will be part of a team that will provide deep technical packaging understanding and will work within the DS2 organisation, local markets, and other functions to develop Packaging from concept to finished goods to drive innovationand sustainability. The incumbent will on a continual basis develop a range of consumer relevant, value added packaging with specific focus on DS2 innovation. They are responsible for leading packaging development activities and are accountable for the executionof the programs and work streams developed by the global DS2 team.

**Key Responsibilities.**
- Owns the technical packaging design, translation, and development through to execution for a variety of projects across different product categories and brands to deliver growth and sustainability.
- May operate within one or more Global Packaging Technical Platform Teams (TPT's) with responsibility for specific projects and the management and tracking of their budgets.
- Creates packaging designs and accurate technical specifications that deliver the Key Quality Attributes via robust risk management and the delivery of consumer, customer and supply chain requirements
- Creates packaging prototypes and ensures successful line trials at Clients site, co-packer and co-manufacturing sites, or at pilot facilities; ensuring the relevant documentation is produced and results are accurately recorded leveraging the use of ElectronicNotebooks and other tools and systems
- Operates with high levels of Project Management discipline to ensure that time lines and risks are suitably managed
- Works with cross-functional teams to deliver desirable, viable, feasible and sustainable innovation, leading projects of different levels of complexity at the same time.
- Works with Global product development and Factory Innovation teams in building and delivering the innovation pipelines and the development of existing or new technology to deliver Innovation
- Works with the Global Packaging and Engineering teams to help to develop technology required by the DS2 innovation teams and with Commercial to develop material Suppliers and Creative Agency capabilities
- Continually increases knowledge on consumer insight, brand frameworks, major competitors, markets, process, packaging, quality etc and remains abreast of new developments in food technologies, packaging, design, category trends and related fields
- Provides input and is the guardian of relevant packaging business and project data (e.g. Pack KQA's, Specifications, Project plans, Risk schedules, Time lines, Trial reports etc) with responsibility for providing all necessary information to the Quest stagegate process (and to other Client processes).
- Manages Intellectual Property risks & opportunities derived from projects proactively.
- Identifies the Viability, Feasibility and Sustainability of Desirable concepts delivered within their allocated projects and challenge the business with ideas for new Packaging

**Education & Professional Qualification**

Degree level qualification in a relevant technical discipline (Packaging, Engineering sciences etc); OR relevant prior technical experience; Packaging diploma/degree is advantageous

**Knowledge/Experience**
- Demonstrated knowledge of packaging materials, including flexibles, rigid plastic, cartons, and cases and related packing & filling equipment
- Understanding of packaging sciences, packaging development, packaging legislation, food processing and production.
- Demonstrable experience in leading and managing projects in an FMCG environment and working with outside vendors to deliver project requirements.
- Ability to work and collaborate across different levels/cultures and be agile in ways of working and design thinking.
- Good command of the English language & communication skills.
- Able to set priorities and demonstrate project management skills including robust risk, time line, and budget management.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of stakeholders both in demand as supply
