**Housing Support Officer - Uthink PDP**

Purpose of the role:
To provide Specialised Supported Housing too vulnerable people with complex needs and behaviours that challenge them living in a Uthink PDP tenancy and assisting them in sustaining a tenancy in the long term. You will be required to work with a caseload of clients providing weekly support for each client. You will be expected to work with other care professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes for our Tenants.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Liaise with letting staff on selection and allocation of a suitable property, in accordance with the company’s policy, to maintain balanced communities.
- Complete a needs assessment and identify clear goals with each tenant to enable them to maintain their tenancy.
- Assist with the move into the tenancy, ensuring that the tenant has the basic household items they require and understand their obligations under the tenancy agreement.
- Visit the tenant regularly to provide housing related support which may include:Ensuring all Health & Safety requirements are carried out, including checking smoke detectors are in working order.
- Check that refuse is being properly disposed of and premises are in a reasonable state of cleanliness.
- Advise on security systems and controlled entry.
- Provide support in dealing with rent payments, arrears, fuel bills and general money management, including addressing debts.
- Provide advice and assistance with all Housing Benefit and Council Tax claims
- Assist the tenant to understand and manage their rights and responsibilities as a tenant.
- Provide advice on all housing matters, such as reporting repairs and check that all repairs are carried out promptly.
- Advocate on behalf of the tenant regarding any housing related matters.
- Provide general support to the tenant on avoiding neighbourhood nuisance and being a good neighbour.
- Liaise with other services who provide assistance to the tenant, such as registering with GP, a Dentist, Drug/Alcohol, Mental Health services, attending meetings and case conferences.
- Make referrals to organisations providing social, training and employment opportunities.
- Record and monitor all visits and contacts made and the outcomes for each tenant supported.
- Manage any anti-social behaviour issues in line with good practice requirements.
- Ensure all records including Support Plans, Risk Assessments and all other logging requirements are recorded effectively and accurately as required.
- Be responsible for the Health and Safety in the schemes, monitoring of all buildings, including offices and tenant’s accommodation.
- Attend as appropriate, training courses and events to ensure continuous development of skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
- Providing support and empower tenants with complex learning needs, including those experiencing Drug, Alcohol and enduring Mental Health Problems. To assist tenants to make positive lifestyle choices and sign posting to appropriate services in the community.
- Adopt a ‘Do with, not for’ approach with tenants to enable them to develop independent living skills.
- Provide statistical information on a monthly basis for monitoring purposes.
- Attend to any emergency issues at the projects out of hours
- Any other reasonable duties as required within the remit of the role.

**Essential Experience**

Experience of supporting vulnerable people experiencing complex learning needs.

Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding concerns and responsibilities

Experience of managing conflict and Anti-Social Behaviour

Providing Excellent Customer Service

**Desirable Experience**

Awareness of Housing Management issues and legal rights and obligations of tenures

Experience and up to date knowledge of the welfare benefits system

A car driver with access to a car with Business use insurance cover.

**Essential Skills and abilities**

Be confident and able to communicate and engage with people from a wide range of backgrounds

The ability to identify and manage complex risk issues via the use of Risk Assessments and experience of interventions of reducing harm and risks posed to tenants and others.

Demonstrate person-centred support to enable long term tenancy sustainment and encourage independence and positive lifestyle choices.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive network of partner agencies to address the needs of our tenants.

A clear understanding of professional boundaries as part of delivering the Housing Support Officer role.

**Desirable Skills and Abilities**

Develop creative solutions to problems and barriers.
