**Background**

Working under the direction of the Public Affairs Manager, this post is responsible for the development and implementation of policy engagement and impact for the College of Social Sciences to grow the reputation and profile the College and its research. The post holder will work closely with the Schools and research centres in order to deliver a flexible and innovative approach across the broad spectrum of policy engagement.

With a keen interest and understanding of policy engagement and communications, the post holder will support and deliver multiple projects across the public affairs remit with a focus on supporting the College’s academic community to engage with policy and share best practice.

The Public Affairs Officer will deliver tailored and targeted action plans across activities as necessary and will work collaboratively with a number of key staff to develop key strategic relationships with and for the College. As part of the College’s Communications and Public Affairs team, the post holder will also take a lead role in College-wide initiatives as required and as directed by the Public Affairs Manager and will also work closely with the University’s wider External Relations Public Affairs team.

**Role Summary**

The Public Affairs and Communications Officer role is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team within the College of Social Sciences. You will have a keen interest and understanding of policy engagement and communications, enabling you to support the College’s academic community. Reporting to the Public Affairs Manager you will work closely to support the delivery of a wider ranger of policy engagement and communications activity.

**Main Duties**
- Develop and deliver public affairs activity against key objectives in line with the University and College Strategic Frameworks, supporting researchers from the College to engage with policy makers to influence and inform policy. Ensure work is aligned to the College’s key research themes.
- Continual opportunity scanning and monitoring for political and external engagement opportunities and advising academics on best practice, such as how to respond to policy consultations, how best to share policy recommendations and stakeholder mapping.
- Administrative and operational excellence, for example, reporting regular progress and record keeping against clear and measurable objectives and KPIs, demonstrating benefits for reputation, profile and
