**About Us**

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled person to join our multi-disciplinary Public Health team in a new Built and Natural Environment (BNE) service manager role that will span the Public Health BNE work programs.

The Public Health Division is engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of innovative work at a local, regional, national and international level. This is a rare opportunity to join an expanding Public Health team in the largest Local Authority in the country and contribute to Birmingham being a great city that enables people to live healthy and active lives. This role is unique and will support the joint work of the Council’s Public Health BNE team to maximise the health and wellbeing gains from regenerating the city.

**The Role**

The role is ideal for an experienced Public Health professional that has experience in roles or programs associated with the built and natural environment, or the impact of planning and development on health.

This full-time role will be leading the expanding BNE team, working closely with a range of Council departments including Planning, Parks, Transport, Licensing and Housing. This BNE team currently leads on a range of work including housing and licensing, green social prescribing, air quality and proactive projects to protect health. This role will be responsible for ensuring the maximum health gains are met from the development of our city, and for developing a relatively new team.

There will also be opportunities to develop new projects that meet the priorities of the Public Health and wider Council teams.

This role involves driving forward a Social Determinants of Health approach by supporting work across Public Health, focusing on improving or facilitating health through the built and natural environments.

**Skills & Experience**

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who:

- has substantial experience of working with a wide range of partners and stakeholders in supporting Public Health outcomes, for example elected members, the commissioners and providers of health and care services, statutory agencies and businesses
- is able to interact with the diverse communities of Birmingham and is passionate about reducing health inequalities
- has experience of delivering performance and governance arrangements and developing and implementing improvement programmes in line with agreed priorities
- has demonstrable knowledge and understanding of Public Health priorities and relevant policy environment
- has demonstrable knowledge of national planning legislation and local planning policy
- has substantial experience of developing and coordinating the delivery of major projects in complex and challenging environments
- has experience in developing staff through both formal and informal opportunities.
