The postholder will be a midwife practising autonomously to attend women during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. The postholder will be a prime care provider to mothers and their families. She/he will work as a member of a team providing maternity care to women within the hospital antenatal clinic and other areas of the maternity service at times of escalation. The postholder will work within the framework of the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards and the Luton & Dunstable Hospital NHS Trust Guidelines and Protocols.

The postholder will take charge of the antenatal clinic with continuing responsibility in the absence of the senior midwife.

We are seeking enthusiastic, experienced midwives to complement the excellent range of midwifery services we currently provide in our fast paced antenatal clinic within the maternity unit. We are able to offer both full time and part time hours.

We are specifically looking for Antenatal Clinic midwives at this time to support our specialist clinics alongside consultant obstetricians as well as leading the care for women who have care with us who live outside our area.

We support midwives who wish to specialise within a particular element of midwifery and provide opportunities to maintain your skills. You will have good communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate clinical competency.

We are seeking enthusiastic midwives to complement the excellent range of midwifery services we currently provide in our fast paced maternity unit. We are able to offer both full time and part time hours.

We are working closely with Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) to develop our Maternity Services fit for the future and you will have the opportunity to be involved in this work as part of service improvements and ongoing developments.

We were one of four Trusts in England and Scotland to participate in Human Factors work with an emphasis on improved team communications to enhance patient safety. This is now part of our everyday work and provides improved satisfaction for staff and women within the maternity unit.

**OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE OF THE POST**:
**CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES**:
To give care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods to the mother and baby and family.

To advise on the promotion of health and demonstrate an awareness of the public health agenda.

To recognise, identify and respond to any physical, emotional and social situations which may influence the health and well-being of the mother and baby.

To assess, plan and implement care within the sphere of practice of a midwife and to meet the physical, emotional, educational and social needs of the mother, baby and the family.

To take action in initiating the action of other disciplines and seeking assistance when required.

To continue and further develop clinical skills. To work as an expert practitioner.

To interpret and undertake care prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.

To demonstrate effective communications with the mothers, the relatives, colleagues and those of other disciplines.

To care and support the women and family where there are emotional and distressing circumstances.

To demonstrate an awareness of the importance of research-based practice.

To work in a multi-disciplinary team, understanding the role of all the members within the team.

To maintain all necessary records and be responsible for data entry into computer based system.

To support the risk management process and assist in its implementation. To be aware of the risk management strategy and the incident reporting criteria and know how this affects practice.

To have an awareness and contribute to clinical governance agenda.

To understand the value of midwifery supervision and the role of the supervisor of midwives.

To provide appropriate care for our multicultural and diverse community including vulnerable and disadvantaged families.
