Hearth is seeking to appoint a strategic, functional and professional lead for community engagement during the development and restoration of Riddel’s Warehouse.

**The Role**:
Part time 30hrs/week Pro Rata, or Full time options.

Flexible working / Option of hybrid working. Occasional evenings/weekends with prior arrangement.

25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata).

Hearth has been awarded a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to develop a centre for the arts and co-working hub as part of the redevelopment of the impressive historic listed building Riddel’s Warehouse on Ann Street, Belfast.

As the Community Engagement Officer, you will play a significant role in bringing this project to life, connecting people to their local heritage and engaging with the community to investigate their needs. We are looking for a motivated self-starter who is enthusiastic, organised and a proactive communicator and who has experience working in community outreach and with stakeholders.

**Key tasks**:
1. Identifying and connecting with established community groups, arts and heritage groups and community centres within the local area and build relationships with key community representatives.

2. Developing and implementing a programme of communications and activities, including appropriate events and social media content with the above groups.

3. Developing and implementing a calendar of community engagement workshops during the development phase of the project. This will include tours of the building and gathering stories and memories locals may have of Riddel’s or industrial Belfast.

4. Establishing relationships with representatives of other stakeholder groups, industrial heritage and story-gathering community projects in the waterfront area**.**

5. Sharing information on heritage including traditional skills, apprenticeship and other related employment or training opportunities.

6. Assisting in the recruitment and management of a pool of volunteers.

7. Working closely with the Heritage Development Officer to establish an evaluation methodology to record and assess community engagement, needs and success.

8. Organising information gathered in order to developing an exhibition of Riddel’s and its stories.

9. Reporting regularly to the project team and committee.

10. Carrying out other tasks that may arise through the project’s development.

**Key Outcomes**:
1. More of the city centre and waterfront residents know about the warehouse and its heritage.

2. The requirements and wishes of the local residential community and Belfast’s arts community are established.

3. The local residents and arts community have had an input to the project brief.

4. More residents, especially those in the targeted groups, engage with the events in the new facilities.

5. Community performance and arts groups use the building for events.

6. More local stories relating to Belfast’s industrial heritage are gathered and shared.

7. Material is gathered and prepared for Riddel’s permanent exhibition.

8. Members of the community become actively involved in the project.

9. Relationships with other stakeholders are strengthened and developed.

**Competencies**:
**Essential**
- Minimum of 1 year experience of community engagement activity.
- Proven experience of working with a wide range of organisations with varying needs.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels, particularly in verbal communication and interacting with others effectively.
- Experience of producing and presenting reports.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings as required.
- Genuine interest in the community and the project.

**Desirable**
- Minimum third level qualification.
- Two years’ experience in a community engagement role or similar.
- Knowledge of the area.
- Ability to think creatively and implement innovative ideas on a restricted budget.
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating projects.
- An appreciation and understanding of heritage and conservation.
