Clinical Coding Trainer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Clinical Coding
Trainer to join our friendly Clinical Coding team. The postholder will either be an accredited clinical coding Trainer or at least 2 years post ACC and actively working towards achievement of the national Coding Trainer qualification, allowing them to deliver licensed workshops as well as devise their own bespoke specialty-based training materials.
For applicants with the formal training qualification a 10% retention premium would be made available.
The post-holder will support the Training Manager to deliver a comprehensive training programme to the Trust’s Clinical Coding Team.They will ensure that clinical coding accurately reflects all national rules, conventions and datasets, keeping abreast of national clinical coding developments and cascading this knowledge to the Clinical Coding Team. The post holder will liaise with the Clinical Coding Auditors and provide one-to-one feedback to Clinical Coders on results of training assessments and audits to agree areas for development.
The post-holder will advise on and assist in the implementation of any new guidance, national standards, and ensure that all local policies are updated in line with national standards. They will ensure any locally agreed policies are passed to the Coding Leads and also ensure that this information is passed onto all Clinical Coders. As well as maintaining and developing their own professional and personal skills the post-holder will assist in the development and implementation of individual mentoring and training programs to ensure that Clinical Coders are confident and effective in their roles and to facilitate the achievement of the necessary quality standards and information-governance requirements.They must also ensure that there is continual interaction/collaboration with clinicians in all specialties to ensure there is validation with them on coded data, ensuring that procedures and diagnosis are correct and agree with national standards.

- Support the Clinical Coding Training and Audit Manager in developing and training all staff in the Clinical Coding Team, supporting their achievement of the National Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification and advanced experience in all relevant specialty areas
- Provide one-to-one feedback to clinical-coders on results of assessment
- Monitor requirements for clinical-coding training, to support national initiatives and to ensure that these requirements can be effectively met in the required timescales.
- Keep abreast of all changes to national training materials, ensuring they are communicated within the team and to the wider Trust, where appropriate.
- Keep abreast of developments concerning PbR guidance, methodology and any related issues about the reporting of activity contracts and brief colleagues on any such
- Make judgments and give advice and guidance where opinions differ concerning the coding of complex cases, new diagnoses or procedures not previously performed;
- Raise any issues/concerns at coding-management meetings and suggest possible solutions to problems relating to performance or data quality;
- Produce reports, particularly to analyse individual training results, utilising spreadsheet;
- Plan and manage activities to deliver agreed work programmes relating to clinical-coding training within agreed timescales;
- Support staff working towards the National Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification and advanced experience in all relevant specialty areas;
- Implement training plans for new clinical coding staff, to assess current ability and future training needs;
