The Head of Patient Flow will be a visible, authoritative and professional clinical leader with responsibility for patient flow and lead on all day-to-day and forward operational planning and decision making on the acute hospital site, liaising with multi professional colleagues throughout the ILG and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).

The post holder is required to work independently ensuring effective interpretation and implementation of national guidelines and escalation processes. Responsible for policy and service development and for the budget and physical resources for all aspects of patient flow within the Clinical Service Group. Objectives include achievement of all national and local performance targets, local development plans and other national and local initiatives. The Head of Patient Flow has responsibility for the Bed management and Discharge Liaison Nursing (DLN) Teams. This will include the management of staff involving recruitment, appraisal, CPD and performance. Together with the Acute Services General Manager and Director of Nursing, they will foster a culture that engages all staff in the development and delivery of patient flow across the site.

This exciting post combines day to day management of site operations, with setting and implementing a vision for excellent patient flow management.

You will work closely with medical, nursing, AHP and operational colleagues to ensure the safe and effective running of the patient pathways. This is a critical role in the context of Covid 19, increasing emergency demand and the restoration of planned services. You will implement national best practice in optimal patient flow and discharge from hospital, working collaboratively with partners from social care and community health care.

**The post holder will**:

- Provide the first point of contact for Executive colleagues, other Health Boards, Welsh Government and agencies for all operational issues.
- Provide and receive highly complex sensitive or contentious information and data and be able to provide it to individuals or groups and use comparisons with other data/information.
- Promote good working relationships, to assist in the effective management of patient care across the ILG and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB).
- Work with and support the ILG and Clinical Service Groups, ensuring that all those with responsibility for executing plans do so as intended.
- Liaise with other Health Boards and hospitals, police and media as advised and required by the Communications Team.
- Act as an ambassador for CTMUHB in professional and public settings, with patients, relatives, visitors and staff
