Job summary

A vacancy exists for a Consultant Healthcare Scientist / Head of Service for Audiology. The Audiology service spans a multi site service across the majority of the main hospital sites within the Health Board.

Reporting to the Clinical Director of Healthcare Science (operationally) and the Executive Director of Therapies and Healthcare Science (professionally) the post holder will be responsible for the budget, professional practice and delivery of the whole range of the Audiology services. S/he will work with the other team members in building strong cross-professional relationships and networks within and out of the University Health Board. S/he will undertake clinical/professional duties carrying out highly complex testing on patients the majority of which will be non-routine.

The postholder should be a registered Clinical Scientist or Audiologist, registered with the HCPC or AHCS. Ideally the applicant should be working at or towards registration as a consultant clinical scientist with the AHCS Higher Specialist Scientist Register.

The postholder should have an MSc in audiology or equivalent level of experience.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Post holder will lead the strategic, current and future service development of Audiology by liaising with stakeholders.

The post holder is the consultant professional and managerial head of Audiology services, holding accountability for compliance with legislative, professional and ethical requirements including clinical governance and to manage staff over a multi-site service.

Complete responsibility for budget, expenditure and budget planning for four budgets.
