If so, this vacancy could be for you.
Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) plays a huge part in the work that the Environment Agency does; helping to protect against flooding. and minimising the risks caused by any floods that do occur. Nationally, we are investing over £5.2 billion between 2021 and 2027 to reduce flood risk across England. The Area Programme team manages programmes of work covering discrete areas across England to contribute to this.
This role is varied and draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills. Working closely with other teams from differing technical disciplines across the Environment Agency, you can expect to be involved in any of the following, typically as support rather than leading:

- Developing and planning programmes of work
- Tracking programme progress and performance
- Collecting, analysing and interpreting data
- Working closely with project delivery teams, including local authorities
- Preparing reports and presentations
- Providing governance secretariat for assurance activities

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Flood Risk Programme team is a welcoming and motivated team, responsible for allocation, monitoring, and leading programme and project delivery across Hertfordshire and North London. Our work is fast paced. We present accurate and consistent figures to a range of customers. We are at the forefront in helping the area shape how the organisation delivers the 6-year capital investment programme. Self-management and good communication skills are essential.
- Experience/skills required- We are not seeking specific qualifications for these roles or previous experience in Flood & Coastal Risk Management. It’s more important to us that you are enthusiastic, have a can-do attitude and a passion for protecting our environment. Key things we are looking for are transferrable skills, energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.
Strong organisational, inter-personal skills and a proven ability to use MS Office (strong Excel skills will be required).
- Understand and enjoy working with data, some knowledge of Project and Programme Management is desirable although not essential.
- GIS skills would be advantageous to help display info-graphics.
- A proactive approach and fresh perspective to help look for ways we can improve.
- A proven record of working with customers and delivering on time are essential.
