- Job description 1- As a Flood and Coastal Risk Management Advisor in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview (PSO) Team you will be helping to reduce flood risk to people and property in the Hertfordshire and North London Area. We are looking for an individual with experience in planning and/or permitting to technically support colleagues, ensure training is identified and delivered and to take the lead on complex/major development sites. You will use your technical expertise of assessing flood risk to ensure we get the best outcomes for people and places.
Your work will involve:

- Influencing customers and building relationships internally and externally
- Training and coaching others to equip them with technical knowledge and skills
- Keeping up to date with legislation, evidence and policy and working with colleagues and partners
- Forge relationships with internal teams and identify opportunities to link elements of your work
- Work with colleagues across the country to share best practice, improve ways of working and disseminate new guidance
- The technical lead will use experience in planning and/or permitting to technically support colleagues and ensure training is identified and delivered
- Ensuring our priorities, and those of external Risk Management Authorities, are aligned with the National Flood Risk Management Strategy

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team 1- Partnerships & Strategic Overview support the whole lifecycle of our flood and coastal risk management assets. We use a wide range of skills to help us plan for the future. We work in partnership with communities and other organisations to protect people and property from future flood risk. You will be sat in the Data, Evidence and Land Use Planning PSO team that provides the technical support and advice to the catchment based PSO teams.
- Experience/skills required 1- You will be confident in using your knowledge and initiative to motivate others and achieve sustainable outcomes in flood risk management. You will have leadership and successful delivery of projects. Good communication skills across a range of stakeholders are essential.
Ideally, you’ll be qualified to degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or science discipline. Most important is your enthusiasm and willingness to learn and innovate.
Development and Land Use planning

Contracted hours are 37 hours a week on a full time basis.
You will need to be able to travel to meetings, sometimes in remote locations. The post will be based at our modern office in Welwyn Garden City, a short walk from the train station and the town centre. We support a mix of office and home working, determined by the type of work, meetings and the need to collaborate with colleagues.
