The role of Specialist Police Staff Investigator (Specialist PSI) is both challenging and rewarding. We are looking for highly motivated individuals with strong interpersonal skills to join NYP.

As Specialist PSI you will be responsible for gathering and reviewing evidence and undertaking crime investigation duties in this specialist and complex arena, ensuring that any evidence obtained is recorded, secured, preserved, and reviewed in a timely and appropriate manner to safeguard the vulnerable and to bring offenders to justice, thereby supporting the Force policing mission, organisational priorities, and the NRAIT Service Delivery Plan. The role involves the review of material relating to serious sexual offences committed against persons who are now adults but were offended against in childhood.

Your responsibilities will include, interviewing suspects, preparing prosecution case files for offences investigated by the NRAIT. You will utilise NICHE and other Police information storage sources (CLIO, HOLMES) as applicable to the investigation. In addition, you will inform risk assessments and provide appropriate safeguarding support for victims and suspects during investigations. You will contribute towards identifying and setting investigative strategies and work in collaboration with other teams across North Yorkshire Police and other Police forces and agencies throughout the UK.

**Specialist PSI - Online Child Abuse Team (OCAT)**

You will work within a dedicated proactive team to identify and pursue some of the highest risk online offenders to ensure the timely safeguarding of children. OAT deal with all National Crime Agency (NCA) referrals in addition to Online Child Activist Groups (OCAG) investigations and have a strong working relationship with the regional Undercover Online Team (UCOL). The role is demanding although very rewarding and will involve reviewing Indecent images of Children.

**Requirements**:

- PIP level 1 is essential to the role and there is an expectation that you will work towards your PIP level 2 accreditation, and we will support you to achieve this.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate difficult messages with tact, sensitivity, and compassionate authority, ensuring that NYP’s Values of Integrity, Respect and Impartiality are reflected at all times.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills are crucial for this area of victim-focused policing.
- Prior knowledge, skills, and experience as an investigator with an understanding of the Criminal Justice System is vital.

Previous experience or knowledge of this area of investigation is highly desirable, together with an understanding of the various requirements for RASSO file compilation and submission.
