**Job summary**:
This is a brilliant opportunity to use your analytical experience to help a major UK government department communicate impact fully and efficiently to influence business and public behaviour and attitudes.

As Deputy Head of the Insight and Evaluation function, you will lead a team of analysts to deliver robust and credible insight to support the design and evaluation of our communication and marketing activities - including our communications development, creative testing, audience understanding, monitoring and assessment of communications impact and effectiveness.

Leading a team in close collaboration with the Grade 6 Head of Insight and Evaluation, you will plan and schedule research activities, ensuring they are delivered to the highest quality and with commercial and practical relevance.

You will bring expertise in social, market and behavioural research and employ best practice methods. You will also find ways to improve our data structures so that we are able to analyse data at pace as well as take responsibility for meeting all data compliance requirements.

Work will include managing external research agencies to develop the evidence base and to measure the impacts of the vast range of communication and marketing activity that the Department delivers. The role will play a crucial part in shaping the UK’s trade and investment promotion strategies by evidencing what does and doesn’t work.

The role is embedded within the Communications and Marketing directorate, but you will also be part of the Department’s wider analytical community.

We have a strong culture of inclusion and diversity and are committed to being an equal opportunities employer. We aim to develop all our staff to enable them to make a full contribution to meeting the Department's objectives, and to fulfil their own potential. We promote and support the use of a range of flexible working patterns to help staff to balance home and work. We support this culture through our staff networks, including the BAME, LGBT+ and Parents networks.

We are a supportive team and take the wellbeing and development of our staff seriously. There are lots of opportunities for training and professional development both within DBT and as part of the Analysis Group.

**Job description**:

- Development and delivery of the annual insights and evaluation programme, working closely with the G6 Head of Insight and Evaluation.
- Oversight of the development of monitoring, evaluation and analytical tools, including appropriate frameworks, national and international surveys, robust evaluations and evaluation strategies, new and innovative analysis techniques, to provide insights into what works.
- Development of strategic analytical advice, presentations and dissemination of emerging findings to senior officials. This requires strong presentation and communication skills as well as the ability to identify those messages important to senior managers.
- Management of contractors and research projects including research budgets.
- Oversight for the production, quality assurance and publication of analytical reports of research, statistical analysis and official statistics in line with the GSS Code of Practice and oversight of pre-release access.

You will be highly motivated with the ability to work collaboratively with others to deliver results. You will be able to quickly build strong and effective working relationships with your colleagues and stakeholders and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

You will be able to deliver high quality work in a timely manner and will be an excellent project manager with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances where required.

Including this post, the team is currently formed of five multi-disciplinary analysts (including social researchers and statisticians). This could change as plans for the new department are finalised.

**Hybrid Working**

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.
