**About the role**:
**Help shape a heritage brand**

If you are a senior leader looking to make a difference in a national organisation, our Operations Director role might be for you.

Acting as a conduit between the Director of Asset Operations and five regional substation zonal teams, you will drive consistency, standardisation, and a strong operational focus across National Grid’s Asset Operations (AO) portfolio.

You will create meaningful change and translate strategic thinking into pragmatic action. You will think holistically across our rapidly expanding electricity transmission organisation and have the freedom and authority to execute our vision in the way you think best.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Helping resolve national, operational issues by acting as the first point of escalation across all five zones.
- Taking strategic, directional and operational leadership of each zone that reports into the Operations Director. Collaborating with other heads of operations to ensure the most efficient approach across all operational teams.
- Maintaining the highest levels of safety and sustainability in operations across each zone. This includes accountability for safety of the operational environment and zero accidents in the workplace.
- Driving consumer value through collaborating on innovation, direction and ideas with Ofgem’s engineering team.
- Prioritising National Grid’s interests through developing, managing and maintaining appropriate relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Creating and sharing a compelling vision of the future and effectively communicating change.
- Motivating and inspiring each team to deliver. Driving strong team outputs through effective performance conversations.
- Owning and championing all business change and performance excellence, holding each team to account for delivering against targets.
- Driving continuous improvement by identifying and implementing both internal and external best practice.

**About you**:

- Have a degree or equivalent, or relevant experience.
- Have a minimum HNC in an engineering discipline.
- Are members of relevant professional body (desirable)
- Are able to influence, motivate, counsel, coach, and develop employees at all levels
- Possess high levels of commercial acumen demonstrated through the management of multi-disciplined activities
- Are experienced in and have competent understanding of HV Substation plant and equipment
- Have a track record of introducing innovative solutions and challenging established methodology and practices through the process of continuous improvement
- Are leaders in Operational Excellence with a track record of developing high performing agile teams with repeatable and predictable outcomes.
- Have advanced knowledge of NG processes and procedures and associated management practices relevant to the delivery of business activities.
- Have advanced knowledge of integrated management systems, accredited to international standards as an alternative.
