We have a new and exciting opportunity for a permanent Pensions Officer to join our in-house Payroll and Pensions team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Pensions Officer will support the delivery of an efficient, effective, and high-quality pension service which ensures pension information is processed correctly in line with statutory and pension scheme guidance for the Trust and client accounts.

Working collaboratively with the wider Payroll team to provide an efficient pension service to all Trust and client employees.

Provide information and guidance to staff in connection with the NHS Pension Scheme, the alternative National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) or other workplace pension scheme.

Working as part of a team to undertake the preparation, calculation and updating of NHS Pension, NEST or other workplace pension scheme records and payments via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) and Pensions Online (POL) in accordance with the pension scheme regulations, the Pension Regulator legislation, Trust’s Standard Financial Instructions (SFI’s), internal procedures and statutory obligations.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of National and local terms and conditions of service in relation to pensionable pay, escalating any areas requiring clarification as required
- Process pension contributions correctly in accordance with required timescales and guidance procedures
- Maintain pension records for payment and deductions
- Provide advice and guidance on the correct completion of pension documentation when appropriate
- Process all retirement benefits which may include age, early retirement, ill health, injury, redundancy, death benefits etc
- Process complex manual calculations when appropriate
- Calculate Mutually Agreed Resignation Scheme (MARS) entitlement payments in accordance with National Framework and local policies
- Process pension opt out and refund forms accurately and within the published timescales
- Process the monthly/weekly Auto Enrolment as required in line with agreed procedures
- Work independently to provide pension estimates i.e. age, early retirement, redundancy, death in service benefits, including employer costs when appropriate
- Provide clarification and interpretation of HMRC regulations regarding Pension Lifetime Allowance and Annual Allowance regulations when require
- Provide guidance and interpretation on NHS Pension Schemes regulations to employees which may include Added Years, Early Retirement Reduction Buy Out (ERRBO).

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

- Provide guidance and interpretation on NHS Pension Schemes regulations to employees which may include Added Years, Early Retirement Reduction Buy Out (ERRBO)
- Investigate employee member queries in relation to their NHS Pension record which may include those relating to Special Class Status
