We require Technical Authors to prepare and maintain customer-facing documentation and user guides for a wide range of products and services and specifically for our high-stakes assessment solutions. Roles report to a Senior Development Manager within the team.

**Job Purpose**

Working as a member of a team, a Technical Author is responsible for documentation development, including researching and defining required documentation scope, understanding complex product functionality (largely though their own use and investigation of RM’s assessment products, but with support from product experts where necessary), creating document drafts, managing document reviews, and document updates and maintenance.

**Responsibilities**:
**Main Responsibilities**:

- Develop documentation based on RM’s guidelines and house style. Creating and editing pictures and diagrams as necessary as part of the documentation. Currently we use Microsoft Word for documentation but plan to move to more industry best-practice authoring software as soon as we can.
- Collating and verifying information needed to create documentation, primarily through independent use and investigation of solutions.
- Liaise with Product Managers, Product Owners and Software Engineers as needed to support product knowledge and clarify required information.
- Work on project teams to meet agreed timescales.
- The job holder is responsible for the technical, grammatical and typographical accuracy of the documented information and for working with internal teams to ensure that documentation is appropriately reviewed.
- Provide expertise and editorial support to other Technical Authors and other RM staff.

A Technical Author must have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work closely with key stakeholders and internal teams.

In addition, they will have:

- Advanced Microsoft Word skills
- Experience of using industry standard tooling such as MadCap Flare
- Good verbal skills and excellent written communication skills
- Ability to structure information in a logical order and to turn technical information into plain English
- Strong focus on detail
