Moffatt & Nichol is actively looking for an Undergraduate Flood Risk and Coastal Apprentice to join our Exeter office. This is a Civil Engineering Year in Industry placement position (summer 2024 to summer 2025, although immediate starts would also be considered).

The Flood Risk and Coastal Apprentice assists the planning, appraisal and design for flood risk, coast protection and urban waterfront projects. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful applicant to work within a growing team, on a range of projects in the UK and overseas and to complement and expand the skillset you will be developing at University before your final year.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Working on coastal and flood risk projects of varying scales, from small weir replacements for the local council, to multi-billion pound marina developments.
- Drawing on Moffatt & Nichols reach to actively engage with clients and project teams around the world, from our close knit and friendly tea here in the Exeter office to flying out the east cost of the US for meetings and site visits.
- Contributing to the design of structures such as rubble mound breakwaters and flood walls, aiding the senior members of the team with calculations, design drawing and report writing.
- Having the opportunity to grow in the direction that I chose, learning valuable skills in the industry such as flood modelling, CFD and 3D visualisation.
- Contributing to the progression of the field of civil engineering, by attending industry conferences and presenting my own research.

**Qualifications**:

- Ongoing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering or Related field (2nd or 3rd year, penultimate year at University)
- AutoCAD and / or GIS proficiency desired
- Ambition to work in flood risk, climate change, coastal or waterfront development sectors
- All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-1

**Physical requirements**:
Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
