This is a unique opportunity to drive the working partnership between the Environment Agency and the UK Met Office. The Flood Forecasting Centre is world leading in delivering services that support national resilience to flooding across England and Wales.

You will be a highly visible leader that is embedded across the partnership, positively modelling the culture and values of both organisations. You will help shape how the partnership operates by collaborating and influencing key stakeholders in setting the strategic direction of the centre building on past successes and transforming future risks into opportunities.
As a proven leader, you will inspire, motivate and develop a highly specialised and technical team ensuring the development and delivery of the service is integrated across the partnership based on innovation, collaboration and efficiency.
- The team- The Flood Forecasting Centre is an operational 24/7 centre delivered by hydrometeorologists supported by incident managers, engagement specialists, forecasting specialists and an experienced management team.
The centre continuously improves its services through exploiting new science and technology working closely with partner organisations as well as national and international partners. As Head of Centre you will drive a team of 25-30 staff both from the Environment Agency and the Met Office with 4-5 direct reports.
- Experience/skills required
- Proven experience working in a leadership capacity, accountable for an operational team
- Evidence of building successful teams achieving collective results through partnership working.
- Ability to prioritise and make effective and timely judgments when faced with complex and contending information and demands.
- Excellent stakeholder and inter-organisational relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication skills to engage with and be credible by a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences during real-time ‘reactive’ situations and longer-term reviews.
- Evidence of a proven track record of user focussed service delivery.
- Significant experience of building consensus and stakeholder management to influence and consolidate views of service users and stakeholders.
- Relevant technical experience may be an advantage but not essential.
