The post of Team Supervisor is a senior position which carries additional responsibilities. This attachment must be read together with the job description for a Senior Nursery Officer.

**The Purpose of the Post**

Ÿ Provide leadership to a team of staff and ensure high standards are upheld at all times.

Ÿ Act as a mentor to junior staff and assist with on the job training.

Ÿ Liaise and work closely with Managers.

**Accountability**

You are responsible and accountable for your own actions and for those of your team while under your leadership. However, the chain of command is as follows:
Ÿ Members of your team will come to you for help and advice. It is your duty to assist them to the best of your ability.

Ÿ If you feel that the matter is outside of your capabilities or responsibility, you must refer the matter to either the Assistant Manager or Manager without delay.

Ÿ You are responsible for the care and safety of the children in your base rooms during the daily operation of the nursery.

**Main duties and responsibilities**

**Organisation**

Ÿ Use your knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage to organise, record and implement an effective program of age appropriate activities to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of the children in your group.

Ÿ Involve all the staff in your team according to their level of training and ability to plan, develop and implement this program of activities.

Ÿ Take responsibility for ensuring the effective and systematic recording of observations, educational records and planning for children’s future learning for all children in your base rooms using the key worker system.

Ÿ Ensure that records relating to children are suitably stored, having regard to confidentiality and also ease of access for key workers.

Ÿ Implement and operate an effective rota system for checking and cleaning all rooms, toys, equipment and furniture used in your base room and when stored after use.

Ÿ Deploy your staff effectively and ensure that the correct staff to child ratio is maintained at all times.

Ÿ Work with the Manager to produce an effective weekly staff rota for your base room, taking into account any staff holidays or other absence within your team.

Ÿ Take responsibility for Health and Safety issues in your base rooms. Report any issues or anything that could cause harm to a Manager without delay.

Ÿ Develop effective daily routines to ensure that the children’s day runs smoothly and has variety. Give opportunities for play, both outdoors and in, rest and sleep, healthy eating, games and stories, group and solitary play.

**Leadership**

Ÿ Provide leadership to your staff team in the organisation of the daily/weekly routine in your base rooms.

Ÿ Ensure that all key workers in your team understand their responsibilities and keep up to date records of the progress of their key children.

Ÿ When staff from other teams are deployed to cover absence in your team it is your responsibility to check that they understand their role and what is required of them and also that rotas, routines and procedures are available for them to follow.

Ÿ Act as a good role model to all staff in your team, encourage them to be professional, to take pride in their work and to uphold the high standards of the nursery at all times.

Ÿ Use your knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures to ensure the safety of all children in your base rooms. Provide leadership and guidance to all members of your staff team and ensure that all concerns are taken seriously and reported to a Manager without delay.

Ÿ Work closely with senior staff, other professionals and parents to ensure that any children in your group with EAL, SEN or any other additional needs are assisted fully to ensure that the nursery meets their needs.

Ÿ Make sure that your staff are aware of the important role of parents and treat them with respect. Encourage good relationships between staff and parents and develop strategies for sharing information about their child.
