All of our centres are multidisciplinary, with staff drawn variously from economics, sociology, social policy, demography, psychology, anthropology and social statistics. We promote problem-solving interdisciplinary research on particular themes where we have outstanding scholarship and critical mass, e.g. gender, families, work, inequalities, migration, bio-social interactions.

**About the role**:
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA)* to be an active member of the research team on “Social reproduction in the shadows: Making lives with no recourse to public funds (NRPF)”. The project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and is led by Professor Rachel Rosen (PI) and Dr Eve Dickson (Co-I). The project aims to advance understanding and knowledge of the ways destitute migrant families and unaccompanied young people with insecure migration status make and sustain their lives in the absence of mainstream welfare support in England.

The post holder will also be involved in dissemination, including academic and co-produced creative outputs to spark public dialogue about NRPF, childhood, and welfare bordering.

This post requires basic DBS clearance.

The post is available immediately until 31st July 2026 in the first instance.

**About you**:
You will have a master’s degree with excellent academic record, knowledge of research and policy about separated child migrants and about NRPF, and experience with young people with precarious migration status.

You will also have the ability to liaise and communicate with academics, third sector organisations, and migrants, asylum-seekers, and refugees.
