The North London Mental Health Partnership, [the Partnership of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I)] have an exciting opportunity for a 0.5w.t.e Band 5 Research Assistant, to join the CRN funded research team. The team works in collaboration with colleagues at BEH offering support across both trusts’ to the ongoing portfolio of clinical research studies. The successful applicant will be based at UCL working under the supervision of Professor Angela Hassiotis supporting her current portfolio of studies.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to take a proactive role in the research led by Professor Angela Hassiotis, with a focus on recruitment, the post holder will aim to achieve the recruitment targets for the studies.
- Assess and manage patients through the pathway during their time on the trials.
- Promote and maintain effective communication with patients, carers and members of the research team, as well as and departments across both trusts, and the R & D department, Noclor.
- Ensure all data is accurately recorded.
- Collection, analysis and interpretation of data if required (e.g., experiments, interviews, observations) and/or gather impact evidence.
- Conducting data-base searches.
- Effective time management and ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to plan, prioritise own work to achieve agreed objectives
- Ability to work in a structured way to store data
- Strong inter-personal skills
- Effective administration skills
- Evidence of gathering data and information within the NHS
- Experience of working independently and as part of a team

A willingness to travel to sites across London is essential as the roles are based within services, as well as an ability or willingness to learn phlebotomy.

Whilst the role will predominantly be supporting the studies of Professor Hassiotis, there will also bre opportunities to develop your clinical and leadership skills with many of our previous research assistants moving onto senior roles within the NHS, completing PhDs and DClinPsy training. Along with colleagues from BEH, we also work with other Research Delivery team in London under NOCLOR, which provides opportunities for shared learning and creative thinking. In addition, we are an outgoing and social team who encourage, motivate and support one another.

The Research Delivery team works with a diverse population across the trusts, and is important to us that we reflect this. Furthermore, it is key that team members uphold our trust values and work together for our clients with respect, dignity and compassion.

The role will involve engaging with clinical services, disseminating research trust wide, discussing studies with our clients and carrying out research activity for studies led by Professor Hassiotis. This may include assisting participants to complete baseline assessments, conducting clinical interviews or psychometric assessments and delivering psychological interventions.

There may be opportunity to work on some additional studies. Some previous studies research assistants have worked on include taking blood samples for a trial looking at immunological causes of psychosis, helping service users to complete questionnaires about their experiences of paranoia, delivering sleep intervention to carers of people living with dementia.
