**Job description**:
The purpose of the Culture and Engagement lead position is to oversee the work we do to build a strong, diverse and inclusive culture in the Science, Innovation and Growth group. This role would support the Director General and senior management team to develop and deliver action plans to strengthen our Group, looking at the wide range of levers that influence a positive working environment (inclusive working, recruitment, formal and informal networks).

The postholder would operate across a busy and diverse policy group of c. 500 staff. They would work with SMT to set clear objectives for the Group, build strong networks of staff volunteers and corporate contributors, and work positively and enthusiastically to champion steps to strengthen culture and engage teams across the Group.

As part of their responsibilities, the Culture and Engagement lead would provide advice and support on meeting the Public Sector Equality Duty requirements, working closely with central DSIT teams. They would need to stay abreast of the latest developments in the Department and across the public sector on the Equality Act.

The postholder would report into the G7 Head of Culture and Corporate. The role would sit in the SIG Director General’s office, working as part of a small and friendly team who deliver corporate support to the Group.

This is a varied and dynamic role and the postholder will be responsible for making an evidence-based assessment of strengths and gaps in the Group, identifying priorities and working with a wide range of teams to deliver.

While priorities will be shaped by that early work, they are likely to include:

- Developing objectives and corresponding action plans to strengthen Group culture, engaging extensively with teams across SIG.
- Building and maintaining strong networks of staff across the Group e.g. diversity and inclusion, People Survey actions, staff feedback panels.
- Supporting Group follow-up to People Survey and Pulse Survey results.
- Exploring steps to build an inclusive approach to corporate processes and systems, including recruitment, talent development, learning and development, reward and recognition.
- Developing and coordinating delivery of internal communications plans and activities to provide a regular drumbeat for Director General newsletters, Group and directorate updates and staff huddles.
- Developing clear metrics for success and track impact to demonstrate improvements in SIG culture and ways of working.
- Acting as the SIG representative in wider DSIT initiative
