**Job summary**:

- Never has there been a more important time for trees and forests to help tackle the climate emergency and provide a much-needed sanctuary for people and wildlife. We aim to at least treble tree planting rates in England reflecting England’s contribution to meeting the UK’s overall target of planting 30,000 hectares per year by the end of this Parliament. This acceleration in current planting rates in England will contribute to meeting the net-zero by 2050 ambitions, and to government’s wider environmental targets. This is supported by the £640m Nature for Climate Fund announced in the March 2020 budget.
- The Department for the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Forestry Commission have set up a joint Nature of Climate funded tree programme for England to support the forestry sector, landowners and communities in the delivery of these ambitions.
- Forestry Commission leads the delivery of the following parts of the tree planting programme:
- developing sector capacity
- woodland creation on public land
- woodland creation on private land
- promotion and engagement

- Our work involves engagement with a wide range of people and organisations, from small landowners and wood business through to large corporations and other public bodies. We work with other government departments, non-government organisations and the private sector; this is in recognition that we cannot deliver policy on our own and with effective collaboration we can deliver more.We are currently seeking a Local Partnership Advisor join the Yorkshire and North East Area Team to help support our delivery work relating to trees and woodlands. The post holder will be based in the Yorkshire and North East Area connected to either our offices in York or Newcastle, with regular attendance at the York office, and travel throughout the area. We operate under a voluntary blended working model which is to be discussed and agreed with line manager.

**Job description**:

- Undertake partnership and stakeholder engagement, working closely with members of the Area Team to protect, improve and expand the woodland across Yorkshire and North East area. Proactively engage with planning authorities & systems. Support capacity building within the Area team and the woodland sector. Be a key member of the Area Management Team including being the line manager for the Area Business Manager.
- KEY WORK AREAS
- 1. Expand: Expand woodland cover by championing the role of trees and woodland as part of green infrastructure via the planning system and by working with key stakeholders/partners such as catchment partnerships, National Parks, AONBs and landscape / woodland partnerships. Collaborate and support Area colleagues with the development of innovative and effective promotion and engagement work to deliver woodland creation.- 3. Improve: collaborative working to encourage resilient managed woodlands, helping respond to the impacts of pests and diseases. Work with partners to improve the management of the urban forest and support community forest partnerships and trusts.
- Market development: Champion the role of the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS) in demonstrating the sustainability of forestry and forest products. Work with enterprise partnerships and initiatives to promote the benefits of woodland management, wood products and supply chains.
- 4. Connecting people: Partnership and stakeholder engagement - working with the Regional Promotions Manager support the development of an area team communications and event plan.
