- UKCEH is looking for an experienced International Hydrological Data Coordinator to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.Working at UKCEH is rewarding. ..You’ll be joining our Hydrological Status and Outlooks Group in Wallingford, working on our National Capability International programme. You’ll lead on engagements with a wide range of partners from diverse countries and regions and play a key coordinating role working with people from all levels within international organisations (e.g. World Meteorological Organization, the IPCC). This will enable you to collate and coordinate international hydrological data products aimed at improving hydrological analyses, prediction, status assessments and seasonal forecasts for the globe.You’ll be joining a leading independent, not-for-profit research institute that’s committed to recruiting talented people like you, progressing your career and giving you the support you need to thrive at UKCEH.Your main responsibilities will include:
- Liaising with national hydrometeorological services worldwide, fostering relationships, keeping continual track of interactions and data exchanges
- Collaborating with key international organisations (e.g. the World Meteorological Organization, UNESCO, IPCC, GRDC) to maintain and build relationships.
- Playing a leading role in data acquisition, developing processes for collating datasets from often disparate sources, and bringing them in line with agreed standards
- Managing data policy/licensing issues (e.g. Working with IPR teams on Terms of Reference and licence agreements for data sharing)
- Working with UKCEH web developers on interactive presentation of international data products
- Promotion of international datasets both within and outside of UKCEH, playing an ambassadorial role for HydroSOS, ROBIN and related initiatives
- Contributing to scientific analysis and publications that use the hydrological datasets obtained through these international initiatives

You’ll have the opportunity to work on the WMO’s- HydroSOS Initiative
- , advancing status assessments and seasonal forecasts for the globe, as well as the- ROBIN project
- bringing together datasets from multiple countries, developing metadata products and assessing global trends in hydrological data.For the role of International Hydrological Data Coordinator, we’re looking for somebody who has:
- A degree in earth/environmental sciences, geography, physical sciences or statistics/mathematics; A Master’s degree in a related scientific discipline or relevant experience would be desirable
- An understanding of hydrological/environmental sciences data
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enable you to interact effectively with people at all levels across the organisation and with external collaborators and stakeholders
- The ability to identify areas for improving efficiencies and savings within the project
- The ability to work independently, ability to manage priorities and work to meet agreed deadlines
- Demonstrated a great deal of flexibility and enthusiasm for learning
- Confidence in creating, collating, or condensing information to prepare internal reports and documents
- Programming experience in either R or Python
- SQL experience would be beneficial but not essential
