South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is now recruiting for a Band 6 Clinical Educator to join the Community Children’s Nursing Team.

Their role will be to work as part of the education locality within the Community Children’s Nursing Team promoting evidence based practice to all staff, children, young people, their families and other agencies to ensure quality care is delivered to children and young people within the community setting.

They will also promote and provide high quality standardised, holistic care throughout the community that will enable children and young people with complex healthcare needs to access all the settings they need to live a fulfilling life to promote their health, wellbeing and independence.

To maintain a professional attitude at all times, developing the role of clinical educator within the Community Children’s Nursing Team, (CCNT) in the best interests of the profession and in accordance with the NMC Code of professional conduct. Also providing on-going evidence of eligibility to practice.

To undertake relevant clinical activities to maintain own clinical competency and to support staff in developing clinical practice.

To ensure that evidence based practice is developed and implemented to maximise outcomes for children & young people.

Initiate and support learning opportunities to meet the educational and skills development needs of nurses, healthcare support workers, parents and children & young people.

To promote individual’s equality, diversity and rights in accessing high quality nursing care.

To facilitate training to enable staff from health, education and social services to be competent to meet the children and young people’s care needs.

To participate and deliver induction/education programmes for staff, student nurses and multiagency partners.

To provide a rolling training programme of education and support for staff caring for a specific group of children/young people.

Professional / Clinical Responsibilities

In conjunction with the community children’s nursing team support the development and training needs of nurses, clinical support workers and within designated clinical areas according to individual needs and service requirements.

Facilitate learning opportunities to meet the educational and skills development needs of nurses, healthcare support workers, parents and children & young people.

To support the development, review, updating and implementation of competencies (using the Coventry and Warwickshire Children and Young People’s Interactive Competency Framework where possible) to ensure evidence based practice is utilised at all times to provide high standards of teaching to support high standards of care.

To review and develop relevant policies and procedures, care pathways, protocols and guidelines to ensure up to date evidence based practice. Participating in clinical audit as required. Ensuring nursing procedures taught are in accordance with Trust polices.

To participate in the Children’s Policy & Approval Group (CPAG) when required.

To support the development and implementation of preceptorship programmes for newly appointed staff.

To work in partnership within the multidisciplinary team to facilitate, a prompt and efficient discharge from hospital, subsequently reducing hospital length of stay and unnecessary re-admissions where possible.

Participate in the Children’s Continuing Healthcare process.

To maintain confidentiality as a priority, in all areas of work, within professional boundaries as directed and expected within the multi-disciplinary team.

To maintain individual, accurate, up to date healthcare records as per trust policy.

To establish effective communication and good working relationships with multi professional and multi-agency colleagues within the Trust to support effective service delivery.
