Head of Operations, Global Markets

Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, this role will lead the Global Markets Operations function, providing operational services, operation of first line controls and a broad range of valued services to underwriting and claims teams, within agreed service levels.

Head of Operations for AXIS Specialty Europe SE (ASE), AXIS Underwriting Limited (AUL) and AXIS Managing Agency (AMA) including their branches and other subsidiaries in the Global Markets Division.

Due to the global nature of AXIS Capital, the role will require exceptional customer and stakeholder management, planning and communication skills.

Generally, this role will require strong relationships to be established and maintained with a broad range of customers and stakeholders (Underwriters, Claims Managers, International executive, Change Management, Data Management, IT, Finance, Lloyd’s, FCA/PRA).

This role will require a high level of interaction and support for the Global Markets underwriting business units, to clearly understand the strategy and goals of the underwriting teams and be able to lead the implementation of operational strategy and tactics to support the underwriting strategy. Effectively communicating with the various stakeholders to successfully implement process change will be crucial.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Lead strategy and delivery of core operational services for AXIS Group, including ASE, AMA and AUL including but not limited to:

- Data Capture
- Aged Debt & Credit Control
- Delegated Underwriting Management
- Bordereaux Processing
- Conduct Risk Management
- Complaints
- Business Change
- Data Management & Data Quality
- Underwriting Controls
- Oversight of the provision of key Group services for the benefit of the business including:

- IT & Cyber Security
- Vendor Management
- Operational Resilience including Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
- Chair of Operations Committee and member/chair of various sub-committees
- Member of ASE Executive Committee, ASE London Branch Executive Committee, AMA Executive Committee, Board member of AUL and Member of Insurance - Global Markets ExCo
- Manage strategic relationship with our business process outsourcers, both on and offshore, and ensuring the cost-effective provision of those services within SLAs
- To drive out frictional cost from all functions, and optimise service provision to the business
- Ensuring that operating models remain consistent with best practice and compliant with the changing requirements of the UK and International insurance industry and regulation

Required Qualifications and Experience:

- Proven leadership and management experience within an International insurer (ideally syndicate and company market)
- Experience of defining and implementing a strategic vision
- Experience of designing and implementing operational change
- Management of functions within current and future scope
- Strong outsourcer management experience
- A successful track record in sponsoring and implementing complex business change (e.g. as project sponsor, steering group participation)
- Experience in the London market
