What does a Triage Officer do at Hillingdon?

As a Triage Officer you will have a central role in ensuring both children and adults welfare and safety are promoted. You will often be the first person members of the public and professionals speak with when requesting assistance, whether this be requests for early help preventative services, family support or where concerns are raised regarding safety or welfare of a child. Out of hours the role extends to taking referrals for adult safeguarding and for people experiencing mental health difficulties. As assistance is often required during traditional office hours as well as out of hours, the Early Help Hub operates 24 hours of the day.

As a valued member of the Hub, you will work alongside qualified social work practitioners to help consider requests for support by collating information and helping to determine the level of need in addition to the most appropriate form of support. By using your initiative and furthering your knowledge of Early Help and resources available in the local community, you will provide information and advice to residents including the help available from partner agencies, third sector organisations and services who may be better placed to assist.

As post holders will work on a 24/7 rota, a 20% enhancement will be payable on top of the basic salary advertised above.

About you

To be successful in this role and equipped to assist residents, you will be assertive, dedicated, enthusiastic and creative as well as having excellent communication skills. You will be able to efficiently and professionally respond to requests for support from a diverse and wide range of people; typically discussing personal and sensitive issues from families and adults in distress requiring help and support.

Experience of working in either children’s or adults social care is essential. You will have a good knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and relevant Child Protection policies and procedures. Knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation, including mental health, would also be beneficial.
