Job description

The Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) is an academic research initiative backed by the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), an independent but industry-funded initiative for better understanding, and counteracting, terrorist use of technology.

GNET is convened and led by the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR), a globally renowned academic research centre based within the Department of War Studies.

The GNET project administrator will work under the line-management of the GNET Research Director and will be responsible for commissioning, editing and publishing all Insights published by GNET, overseeing relationships with partner organisations and a large number of contributors. This involves commissioning various types of publications from them and tracking their deliverables against their contracts.

Further, the role involves editing publications and running all communications for the project, including the maintenance of a dedicated mailing list, the project’s presence on various social media sites, as well as maintaining its website.

The role will also include ad-hoc assistance to the GNET Research Director related to organising and running events, and managing the GNET internship programme.

The project administrator will also act as first point of contact for all press enquiries as they relate to GNET, and maintain a record of all GNET media and public engagements for reporting purposes.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 December 2024, at which point it is likely to be renewed.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

Commissioning, editing and publishing short form ‘Insight’ articles on the latest trends in terrorism, violent extremism and technology

Maintaining and updating the GNET website

Managing GNET’s public communications and social media channels

Handling all financial processes for GNET’s outgoing payments

Orchestrating, alongside the Research Director, all logístical aspects of in-person and virtual events, including the Annual GNET Conference, online workshops and international events

Delivering the key priorities of GIFCT and its member companies

Managing partner organisations of and individuals associated with the GNET network

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Educated to degree or equivalent level

2. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a good standard of English language

3. Experience commissioning, editing and copy-editing academic material related to extremism and technology

4. Experience of using a wide range of social media platforms in a professional and timely manner

5. Experience of communicating with national and international stakeholders

Desirable criteria

6. Experience of website management, specifically WordPress

7. Experience organising in-person and virtual events

8. Experience developing data management/tracking systems
