This is your chance to contribute to the development of Pembrokeshire while ensuring construction work meets the highest standards of safety and compliance with building regulations.

**Trainee Building Control Officer - Grade 6 (£24,054 - £26,845).**

Key Duties:

- Begin your journey as a trainee and work closely with our Building Control Manager and Area Team Leaders to develop a deep understanding of building control processes and the requirements of building regulations.
- Based primarily at County Hall, Haverfordwest, this office-based position will also involve visiting construction sites, dwellings, commercial buildings and public buildings.
- Learn to perform dynamic risk assessments on construction sites to ensure their safety for building regulations inspections. You'll have the opportunity to spend up to 50% of your time on site.
- Undertake a comprehensive training program to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Building, Chartered Association of Building Engineer or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

**Building Control Officer (Grade 7 £27,852 - £31,007) or (Grade 8 £32,020 - £36,298), dependent on qualifications, experience and Chartership with a relevant body.**

Key Duties:

- undertake all works associated with processing building regulations submissions.

Engage with service users providing professional advice on building control matters to our valued customers.
- Investigate unauthorized building works and dangerous structures, offering appropriate advice and solutions.
- Maintain accurate records and data to ensure the smooth operation of our building control service, including statistics for Welsh Government and commencement data for fee charging.
- Assist in preparing fee quotations for building control projects
- Process submissions, including plan vetting, decision notices, and completion certificates
- Conduct site inspections maintaining up to date, accurate records that are accessible by authorised parties.

The role is split approximately 50 / 50 between office based work in County Hall and site based work on construction sites run by others. The building control officer will be expected to access areas including access scaffolds, domestic houses, commercial properties etc. in order to assess works for building regulations compliance.

Membership of the RICS, CIOB, CABE, or a suitable LABC qualification (e.g. Level 5 CIOB Diploma in public service building control) is essential for this role, along with demonstrable knowledge of building regulations and associated legislation. You should also possess excellent negotiation and communication skills, as well as experience in managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.

A full, clean driving license and access to a motor vehicle are necessary requirements for this position.
