B7 Slt Youth Offending Service

Hounslow, United Kingdom Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare NHS Trust Full time

YOS sits under the HRCH Paediatric SLT Team.

Our YOS deliver services to children aged 10 - 18. The children receive routine screenings from specialists based within the YOS, which contribute to the essential AssetPlus assessment overseen by the Case Manager (CM).

Many of the individuals within the YOS population are at increased risk of experiencing health inequalities e.g. due to poverty; poor social support; poor health literacy; being from some underserved ethnic/cultural groups that are over-represented in the Youth Justice System.

During the COVID19 pandemic, SALT and Restorative Justice Officer (RJO) identified a gap in team communication that had been created by the Covid19 pandemic.

Secondment would also be considered

There is a possibility to extend this role following liaison with the Youth Justice Service

If you would like to discuss these options further please do contact CSM, Uma Sai
- To support young people (YP) with acute and ongoing speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), to access the Youth Justice setting, by embedding a three-tiered model of support at all stages of their journey in collaboration with YOS staff
- To upskill and empower the Youth Offending Team and key Health partners to identify and support SLCN
- To describe the need regarding SLCN in the Hounslow youth offender population to address health inequalities and support preventative interventions to improve wellbeing in the borough
- To innovate and develop rigorous service pathways and specifications for a sustainable, innovative Speech and Language Therapy provision in Hounslow that is identified as an example of best practice

NHS Job Planning shows 75% Direct Client Contact and 25% Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), in line with Allied Health Professional Clinical Lead role.

Community healthcare is unlike any other part of the NHS. It’s personalised care that helps people to retain their independence. It’s the NHS at its best and the difference you make is truly tangible. Our colleagues often describe us as a family, and we know how important that sense of belonging and support is when you start a new job. It’s simple - happy, engaged staff provide better services.

In 2018, we were named ‘Best Place to Work for Employee Satisfaction’ by the Nursing Times. The same year, we won the Workforce category at the HSJ Awards. In the latest NHS Staff Survey results 2020, we had the best response rate amongst community trusts nationally.

We are the top community trust in the country on the theme Quality of care for the third year. We had the highest percentage of staff who felt they are able to deliver the care they aspire to and are satisfied with the quality of care they give to patients or service users.

Infection Control

As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination uptake as this remains the best line of defence against COVID19.
